Arts news in two parts.

First up, the roundup: Our weekly arts-news roundup includes a 65-foot roadside tower that’s been turned into a four-story installation by artists like Lonnie Hanzon … a bloody Opera Colorado opener … Biennial of the Americas … the death of local actor Mark Lewis and some seriously wacky words of the day.

Also: Whatever it ends up being called, the iconic former Mercury Cafe is poised for a major revival early next year after a long period of turbulence and dormancy.

Both in today’s Denver Gazette. @denvergazette. Links in bio.

What a week from Red Rocks for a Yo-Yo Ma show Analog Salon on the 30th floor back to Colorado Springs for a Yo-Yo Ma show at Ford Amphitheater . Rehearsals at Boettcher and then finally a Trey Anastasio show with the symphony at Red Rocks. Time to take some well-deserved R&R. by @tay3d1972

It’s always nice to get out of the Symphony hall. It’s even better when you get to work at Red Rocks. But is an amazing day when you get to see your son doing something that he really loves. taken in Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre by @tay3d1972

HELP SAVE BIRDY 🤍 KEEP PRINT UNDEAD

We need your help.

For nearly 13 years, Birdy has remained artist-run and independent, publishing 148 FREE monthly issues to the public, showcasing thousands of artists, writers and creatives across disciplines and around the world.

We’ve never been behind a paywall. We’ve never been driven by an algorithm. Every issue has been built by hand, with limited funding and more heart than we can measure.

Birdy is currently entirely produced and operated by two people - Jonny DeStefano and Krysti Joméi - who have also largely funded Birdy the past few years. We have dedicated our lives to the preservation of analog culture and creating free spaces for artists to have a voice and platform to shine in this world.

Birdy has grown into something that now reaches tens of thousands of people. It has outgrown what a few people can carry alone. This is where participation becomes support. A vote that human-made, artist-driven, screen-free creative culture still has a place in this world.

If Birdy has ever crossed your path, published your work, connected you to artists, sat on your coffee table, lived on your walls, or has meant something to you in any way, please help keep it alive.

Print is still here. Print is undead. But it doesn’t stay here on its own. We need your help to keep Birdy soaring.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us.

And thank you to all of our advertisers and supporters, our core dedicated volunteer crew of house writers, artists and distributors, and our subscribers and fans. You have kept us going all of these years.

Please give what you can and spread the word.

A small, collective act of kindness will save Birdy 🤍
