📷 @konioukhova (1) #TaylaHartemink #BACA #BACA2026 by @tayspaints
RONGOMARAEROA BY TAYLA HARTEMINK Ngāi Tūhoe, Tatimana Tayla has been making waves as an emerging artist with her flair for design and eye for colour using rich pallets, both warming reaching into the esoteric world. She is confident in her connection to te ao Māori which is present in the composition of her art form and arts practice. Behind the new E Tū Toi design – brought to life by Tayla Hartemink (Tūhoe, Te Arawa). From the outset, it was about creating something bold, recognisable, and grounded in kaupapa – while still holding connection to Boosted’s signature red. At the heart of the identity is a striking tohū – a tekoteko carrying strength and visibility for ringatoi Māori and the E Tū Toi kaupapa. by @tayspaints
Last month, Boosted rolled out a bold new identity for E Tū Toi, our Māori match funding initiative, run in collaboration with Creative New Zealand Māori Strategy & Partnerships and The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi. Today, we’re spotlighting the designer behind the new look – Tayla Hartemink (Tūhoe, Te Arawa). Tayla’s whakaaro and creative direction helped shape a visual identity that captures the wairua of what E Tū Toi is all about — strength, aspiration, and the power of coming together. by @tayspaints

Designing a tohu for @boosted.nz 2026 E Tū Toi Boosted campaign! I am inspired by the story of Tāne, who climbed the heavens to get Ngā Kete o te Wānanga (the baskets of knowledge). For me, Toi Māori is a powerful vessel for Māori knowledge as well as indigenous pride and joy ✨ This video shows my design process incorporating customary forms using illustration and digital design 💥 If you are a Māori artist or group and have a creative project, be bold like Tāne and apply for E Tū Toi! @theartsnz @creativenz by @tayspaints
Announcing: Curatorial Tour Material Diplomacy: From Abya Yala to Aotearoa Sunday, February 8 2:00 pm Free Entry Join curator Armando Perla and assistant curator Tayla Hartermink for a guided curatorial tour of Material Diplomacy: From Abya Yala to Aotearoa. This tour unfolds the exhibition as a curatorial activation grounded in Indigenous market women methodologies, where adornment, trade, and relational knowledge shape how materials circulate and speak. Through conversation, we will trace the provenance of key works, discuss materials and techniques, and reflect on the relationships with artists across Abya Yala and Aotearoa that structure this project. An invitation to move through the exhibition slowly, with care, story, and attention to material life. Material Diplomacy: From Abya Yala to Aotearoa features artists from the Americas, and local indigenous Pōneke artists including: @arawhetu @masinacreative @eyezeewhy @matt_tini @aroha_millar @renatiwaaka @huttlyfe @isaacteawa @jamie_berry_artist @ukumad @tellytuita @tayspaints Image caption: These two bangles are carved from lilac jadeite sourced from the Motagua Valley, Guatemala, one of the very rare places in the Americas where jadeite occurs naturally. Lilac jadeite is geologically rarer than green jadeite, with its distinctive hue resulting from trace elements within the stone. The depth and saturation visible here indicate both exceptional material quality and a high level of carving skill. The bangles were carved by Francisco, a second-generation Guatemalan jade carver working with Fuego Gems. @armando_museos @tayspaints @massey_finearts @masseyuni @wgtncc @toi_rauwharangi by @tayspaints
It was a privilege to work on the current Te Whare Hēra resident’s exhibition “Material Diplomacy: From Abya Yala to Aotearoa” as Assistant Curator with the one and only Armando Perla 🥰 Thank you especially to all the artists and members of community who came and helped hand stitch, pin, hang and screw every part of this together. I can’t put into words how beautiful the work came together. And to the artists of Abya Yala (the continent of America), you all are so insanely talented and intricate makers. I am in awe of the incredible ceramic and multi-media work of Aria XYX - expressing queer joy in the face of discrimination - to the expert weavers from Trama, and the haunting illustrations by Hugo Rivas. There is so much to learn and see. Thank you Armando for weaving together our Vā, and creating a space to build solidarity between Māori and the indigenous people of Abya Yala. ✨ I’ve had the best time laughing, learning and problem solving every day while working on this show. Thank you Armando with your expertise, leadership and generosity 🫶🏽 this is by far my favourite exhibition I’ve ever worked on! Thank you also to all my friends, the amazing artists from our local community in Pōneke! I love that we were able to show off some so much of our local Māori and Takatāpui talent. 🌈✨ @armando_museos @tewharehera @aria_xyx @tramatextiles @elhugorivas @wilbersalguero_ @arawhetu @masinacreative @renatiwaaka @aroha_millar @isaacteawa @jamie_berry_artist @ukumad @utu_a_matimati by @tayspaints
