How much of who we are was decided before we ever got the chance to choose?

This question has stayed with me throughout creating this year’s show.

Identity and belonging have been a deeply personal journey for me. I’ve spent a lot of my life trying to understand how all the different pieces of me fit together: what I inherited, what I discovered, and what I’ve chosen to become.

Lately, I’ve found a lot of peace in realizing that I don’t have to choose.

I can honor where I come from, remain curious about what I’m still learning, and allow all of it to exist within me.

For my look, I brought together Black American, Tongan, and Native American elements from my lineage. Seeing those pieces come together on my body felt incredibly personal. There was something healing about being able to visibly honor parts of myself that I’ve spent so much time learning to understand.

But what surprised me most was how much this production made me feel at home.

In creativity. In fashion. In community. In RFR.

There is something beautiful about finding a place where you feel like you belong and realizing you had a hand in creating it.

To my RFR family: thank you. For trusting me, growing with me, creating with me, and giving me a place to pour so much of my heart. I’m so grateful for every late night, every idea, every beautiful mess, every problem solved, and every moment we shared getting here.

And to our Rochester & Buffalo creative community: I love you. Thank you for showing up for one another and continuing to make this place feel like something worth believing in.

This production reminded me that belonging isn’t always something we find.

Sometimes, we build it together.

And I’m so grateful I get to say I helped build this one. 🧡💙🤎

If there’s one thing I go up to bat for it’s the people. Our people. Being able to uplift a community of creative people that might be otherwise overlooked or disregarded is what I do this for.

The ability to create a space that welcomes you and waits for you is what I do this for.

The concept of identity. The question of who we are on our own matters most when we come together to see how each of our unique differences pull us closer and helps us to grow inside and out.

I love y’all bad. I love RFR bad. I’m grateful for having been apart of building something that had these goals in mind.

Like I always say, what comes next? We just keep moving forward 🤍

Went on a solo date to a concert for the first time.
This was an incredibly impulsive and last minute decision in true Sagittarius fashion, that I made at 3pm for a 630pm show and it was the best time!

I was so nervous and part of me really almost let the fact that I wouldn’t have someone to go with stop me but iyk me you know I love a lil area to sing and dance in so I found that and really let it out. I’m kinda becoming my own bestie! Who knew, I made myself so proud tonight. Putting me first , I could get used to this.

This album has stayed w me- from my car at 3am played top to bottom otw to NYC for my first styling job, to a stage in front of me reminding me of what my dreams are and what they can look like after one of the hardest seasons of my life so far.

As a performer Kehlani is amazing and grounded and so relatable, this was such a healing experience for me.

Gratitude for the music. For the creatives. For the community and for the strength.
