Day 1 at the National Youth Employment Coalition Conference @the_nyec_

Teach Emotions is in the room. And we’re listening, learning, and aligning!

Today reminded us that while organizations may operate in different cities…the challenges our youth face are deeply connected.

Throughout the day, we engaged with leaders across the country — from executive directors to community-based organizations — all asking the same question:

How do we better show up for our youth right now?

Breakout sessions pushed our thinking around:
1. Policy and systems impacting youth pathways
2. Building sustainable, authentic partnerships
3. Strengthening communication across organizations

And what stood out most?

Much of what was discussed… we’re already practicing.

From long-standing partnerships like our work with @avenuesforjustice , to the way we center relationships, consistency, and trust.

This conference didn’t just teach us something new.
It affirmed that Teach Emotions is building in the right direction.

We closed the night in community — connecting, exchanging ideas, and strengthening a shared commitment:

“Our youth deserve aligned, intentional, and emotionally grounded support systems.”

Day 1 was powerful.
Day 2 — we build even further.

Last week @avenuesforjustice welcomed U.S. Representative Daniel Goldman for the announcement of critical federal funding that will connect formerly incarcerated youth to job opportunities and help prevent recidivism.

Leadership Council opened the event with our Black History Month tribute, and Donald, our Leadership Council Representative, spoke on the impact of this grant and what it means for AFJ Participants.

Proud of our young leaders for using their voice in rooms that matter.

Grateful to AFJ and to Congressman Goldman for investing in real pathways to opportunity.

A month ago, our founder @drdennisibude gifted his children’s book to Nathaniel.

Today, Nathaniel walked up to him and our co founder @callmedjvirgo & said he reads the book every single day ❤️

He shared how much he loves learning about emotions — and he even completed the coloring section at the end!

Moments like this remind us why Teach Emotions exists.

When a child doesn’t just read the book — but connects with it, learns from it, and makes it part of their daily routine — that’s impact.

As a children’s book author, there is nothing more rewarding than hearing, “I read it every day.”

Representation matters. Emotional education matters. And seeing young readers engage with their feelings early on? That’s powerful.

Nathaniel, thank you for reminding us that the work matters 💛

Our founder @drdennisibude recently had the opportunity to join @avenuesforjustice Executive Director Liz Frederick and the AFJ team at the @robinhoodnyc Teen Council!

During the conversation, Dr. Dennis shared more about the work taking place through Avenues for Justice’s Youth Empowerment and Leadership Council programs, including how these spaces help young people strengthen their confidence, communication, leadership, decision-making, emotional awareness, and ability to advocate for themselves and their communities.

The Teen Council participants brought incredible curiosity, thoughtful questions, and a willingness to challenge ideas about youth justice, leadership, and the issues impacting young people across New York City.

A special thank you to Liz Frederick and Avenues for Justice for the invitation, and to Robin Hood for creating spaces where young people can engage directly with nonprofit, business, government, and community leaders.

Teach Emotions is proud to continue supporting work that centers youth voice, emotional development, leadership, and community impact 💪🏾💪🏾

Teach Emotions was proud to support another meaningful Youth Empowerment experience in partnership with @avenuesforjustice , welcoming Darryl Epps Jr., Deputy Director of the Office of Higher Education in Prison at SUNY, for an impactful conversation with young people.

Throughout the session, Darryl spoke openly about his journey, from experiencing incarceration at a young age to pursuing education, transforming his life, and now working to create opportunities for others.

Thank you Darryl for pouring into our young people and to Avenues for Justice for continuing to invest in their growth and development. We’re looking forward to more conversations like this 💙

For the second year in a row, @teachemotions was grateful to join @avenuesforjustice for their Summer on the Avenue Street Fair in the Lower East Side!

In partnership with @hope.initiativellc , we were able to give back to young people and families preparing for the new school year by providing sneakers, book bags, school supplies, graphing calculators, social-emotional learning books, and additional resources.

What made the day even more special was seeing so many organizations, businesses, and community partners come together in one space to serve, connect, celebrate, and pour into our young people. From music and games to haircuts, double dutch, resources, and giveaways, the block was filled with community energy.

Here are a few highlights from an incredible day of community and giving back 💙

Harlem Week was about more than celebrating history! It was about giving young people the opportunity to see themselves as part of what comes next!

Through the theme “The Harlem We Inherited. The Harlem We Want,” @avenuesforjustice Leadership Council & Speech and Debate Participants used poetry, debate, storytelling, and interactive activities to celebrate Harlem’s culture, reflect on its legacy, and share their vision for the future.

The experience was made even more meaningful by the presence of NYC Council Member @dr.yusefsalaam , @santanaraymond of the Exonerated Five, and New York State Assembly Member @jordanwright4harlem, who joined the celebration and supported our young people as they used their voices.

Moments like these remind us why youth voice matters. When young people are given the platform, preparation, and confidence to lead, they rise to the occasion!

New month, same mission: spreading love and appreciation!!

Leadership Council honored our @avenuesforjustice staff by giving them their flowers—physically and through heartfelt words. We believe people should know the impact they make and how deeply they are appreciated.

This week, @avenuesforjustice Leadership Council members from Harlem and the Lower East Side came together for an unforgettable game night!

We had a record turnout, plenty of laughter, friendly competition, and some amazing prizes, including iPads, scooters, guitars, cologne, perfume, and more. Most importantly, we created a space where young people from both centers could connect, celebrate, and experience joy together.

Proud of our leaders for making this night such a success!
