What is so offensive about affirming Palestinians’ right to live? Why is a congressman censoring public school teachers when they should be protecting our constitutional rights? Email Rep Gottheimer and Superintendent Lerner’s offices demanding the poster be put back up and the teachers rights be protected: cair-nj.org/gazamustlive by @teachingwhilemuslim

We’re taking the necessary steps to curb anti-Muslim hate and misconceptions about Islam in the classroom. 📚

CAIR-NJ’s “Educator’s Guide to Islamic Religious Practices” equips teachers and school administrators with the knowledge and practical guidance they need to better understand their Muslim students and create more inclusive classrooms.

From Islamic practices and common misconceptions to student rights, halal food, prayer spaces, Eid holidays, and navigating sensitive topics like Palestine and 9/11, the guide provides schools with the tools to foster understanding.

Fewer misconceptions. More inclusive classrooms.

New Resource! 📖 Educators and administrators: Read the guide and share it with your colleagues!

Our “Educator’s Guide to Islamic Religious Practices” helps teachers and administrators better understand the religious practices and needs of their Muslim students, build cultural competence, and create more inclusive and thoughtful classrooms.

The guide covers common Islamic practices and misconceptions, legal protections for students, and practical guidance on accommodations including halal food, prayer spaces, and Eid holidays. It also includes guidance on navigating sensitive topics such as Palestine and 9/11.

This guide is one way CAIR-NJ works proactively to help prevent anti-Muslim bias, misunderstandings, and incidents in our schools.

We continue to embrace Palestinian resilience and representation at the Palestinian American Community Center, especially on May 15th, as we commemorate the Nakba. For the past five years, PACC has hosted Palestine Day right here in the Little Palestine neighborhood of Paterson, New Jersey. It is our way of declaring that we are rooted in community, bold in our identity, and united as one voice, not only to remember the Nakba, but to fight for the future of a free Palestine.
This year, on May 16th, we are hosting a Teach-In Centering Palestine at PACC, because learning and education are essential to our work and our representation. We will begin the morning with an Arab American Service Day with a clean up on Palestine Way, followed by the Teach-In and Palestine Day on Sunday.
Join us as we honor our past, ground ourselves in the present, and build toward liberation.

We are outraged that after 2 1/2 years of a live streamed genocide of the Palestinian people, ethnic cleansing of Lebanon, and aggression against Iran and Syria - The acceptance of fully-funded trips to Israel sponsored by the Jewish Federation by South Orange-Maplewood school administrators. somsdk12 This is a serious conflict of interest that demands immediate accountability. The purpose of these tours are no secret: they are used to justify the genocide of the Palestinian people.

We are calling on the BOE to take immediate and decisive action on the following demands:
Full Investigation: A transparent, independent investigation into how these trips were organized, who authorized them, how many administrators participated, and whether proper ethics protocols were followed or deliberately avoided.
Immediate End and Public Accountability: All such sponsored trips must be halted effective immediately. The Board must issue a formal public apology acknowledging this failure of ethical leadership, and commit in writing that district resources, curricula, and personnel will never be used to promote, justify, or normalize genocide.
Mandatory Educator Training: The district must provide comprehensive, mandatory training for all educators and administrators on the history of Palestine, the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and how to identify and prevent anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab racism, Islamophobia, and discrimination within our schools.
Full Disclosure of Expectations and Indoctrination: The district must publicly disclose what administrators were expected to do, advocate, or teach in exchange for these trips. What were they exposed to? What narratives were they asked to carry back into our classrooms and our community? Our families deserve a full accounting.
