@sandyclayborn and I had a great time spending the weekend in St. Louis with our @1stphorm family at Fall Fest! 🍂

One of the things I’ve always appreciated about 1st Phorm is the community they’ve built. It’s more than supplements, fitness, or nutrition. It’s about the people, relationships, and friendships made along the way.

Fall Fest was a great reminder of that. Good food, fall festivities, a great workout, and plenty of time catching up with old friends and making new ones.

Sometimes it’s nice to just get together, share some laughs, and enjoy being around good people.

Grateful for the friendships, the community, and another great weekend making memories with Sandy! 🍁 #iam1stphorm #teamclayborn #fallfest #goodtimes taken in St. Louis, Missouri by @teamclayborn

14 YEARS BETWEEN THE FIRST TWO PHOTOS IN THIS CAROUSEL. 🧡🖤

I’ve been a Bengals fan since day one. Sandy married into it. 😂

That first picture is from 2012. Just the two of us in our Bengals gear, probably getting ready to watch a game. The second picture is from today.

Same two people. Similar pose. Just 14 years of life in between.

Today was the first game of the 2026 season, and we made a day of it. Met up with family and friends for a little pregame brunch, headed to the stadium together, watched some football, and just enjoyed the whole experience.

I love Bengals football. Always have and always will.

But as I get older, I think I appreciate these days a little differently. The football is obviously a big part of it, but so are the people you’re with and the memories you make along the way.

Pretty cool looking at those first two pictures side by side and realizing we’re still doing this all these years later.

Fans for life.

WHO DEY! 🐅🧡🖤

FULL CIRCLE.

Thirty-six years ago, I showed up at Fort Benning as a brand-new Private with no idea where the next three decades would take me.

This weekend, Sandy and I went back.

But this trip wasn’t about me.

We were there to watch two really good friends of mine, both I’ve known for decades and had the opportunity to serve with in combat, assume responsibility as Battalion Command Sergeants Major.

That’s a big deal.

Very few Soldiers will ever become Sergeants Major, and even fewer will get the opportunity to serve as Command Sergeants Major. To watch two friends reach that point—and to know what they and their families have put into getting there—was pretty damn special.

The Army also has a way of bringing people back together at moments like these. I got to catch up with several longtime friends I’ve served with over the years, some I hadn’t seen in quite a while, and even got to spend some time with a few members of my Team Clayborn community.

There’s something about getting a group like that back together. The years disappear pretty quickly.

And somewhere in the middle of celebrating their accomplishments, I also got a chance to look back.

Sandy had never been to Fort Benning, so I got to show her some of the places where my Army career started. I walked some of the same training areas I did as a young Soldier, bringing back a lot of memories.

Then it hit me.

The two guys we came to celebrate are now Command Sergeants Major of Basic Combat Training battalions.

Thirty-six years after I stood on those grounds learning how to be a Soldier, two guys I’ve known and served with for years are now responsible for helping develop the next generation of Soldiers on those same grounds.

That’s about as full circle as it gets.

I left Fort Benning proud of my friends and their families, grateful for some time with old friends, and thankful Sandy got to see a little piece of where this whole journey started.

Congratulations, Command Sergeants Major.

Enjoy the opportunity. You earned it.

Today, September 1st officially marks five years since I retired from the Army.

Five years. Which is pretty crazy considering I spent 31 years of my life doing it.

After my post on Facebook the other day where I talked a little about Somalia and some of the memories that came back while we were in Mykonos, I had several people reach out who had no idea I had ever been in the Army.

And honestly, that got me thinking.

Maybe I’ve actually done this retirement thing the right way.

For the last five years, most of the new people I’ve met know me as a personal trainer, nutrition coach, 1st Phorm Elite Trainer, or just the guy always talking about training, nutrition, getting better, and probably telling you to get your steps in. 😂

A lot of them had no idea I spent 31 years in the Army.

And I think I’m actually pretty proud of that.

Not because I’m not proud of my service. I absolutely am.

I had an incredible career. I went places and did things I never could have imagined when I joined. I served with some amazing people, had some incredible experiences, had some really shitty ones too, and all of it helped make me who I am today.

But when I retired, I never wanted the Army to be what I continued to lead with.

I don’t need to meet someone and immediately tell them I spent 31 years in the military, what rank I held, where I deployed, or what positions I had.

If it comes up, it comes up.

I’m much more interested in living the life I have right now than constantly talking about the life I had before.

Today I’m a husband. A dad. A grandfather. A friend. A coach. A trainer.

And I’m still trying to get better at all of those things.

The Army will always be a huge part of my story. You don’t spend 31 years doing something and just shut that part of yourself off.

But it doesn’t have to be my entire identity either.

So when someone who has known me for a few years says, “Wait…you were in the Army?”

Maybe that’s actually a good thing.

Because it means they got to know me first.

And five years into retirement, I think that’s exactly how I want it.

“What if vacation isn’t a break FROM taking care of yourself… but finally a chance TO take care of yourself?”

There are busy seasons in life. Work, family and responsibilities sometimes have to come first. That’s life. And that’s okay.

But at some point, we have to say: THIS IS MY TIME TO TAKE CARE OF ME.

There’s nothing wrong with taking a vacation. Enjoy it. Eat the food. Have the drinks. See the sights. Sleep in.

You’re not going to fix your life or suddenly get in shape in a week or two. And nobody expects you to have the hardest workouts of your life on vacation.

That’s not the point.

It’s about movement. Self-care. Relieving stress. Doing something that makes you feel better physically and mentally.

Maybe it’s 30 minutes in the gym. A long walk. An easy run. Swimming. Whatever.

And if you already prioritize yourself and have built good habits, vacation doesn’t mean abandoning them.

Train less. Lower the intensity. Eat a little differently. Deload. Decompress. Recover.

There’s a difference between backing off and stopping everything.

And if you haven’t been taking care of yourself?

All year it’s been:

“I’m too busy.”
“I’m too tired.”
“I’ll start when things slow down.”

Well…things finally slowed down.

Maybe this is your chance to set the excuses aside and do something for YOU.

This isn’t about being perfect or sacrificing your vacation for fitness.

It’s about finding a balance between enjoying your life and taking care of the person who’s living it.

Maybe vacation helps you maintain the habits you’ve built.

Or maybe it’s the kickstart you needed to finally build some.

Taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be something you take a vacation from.

“Most people die at 25. We just don’t bury them until they’re 75.”

I came across that quote recently, and it stuck with me.

I think a lot of people reach a certain age and slowly start convincing themselves that their best opportunities are behind them.

At 35, they think they should have started sooner.

At 40, they think they’re too old.

At 50, they wonder what the point would be now.

And eventually, “I should have started sooner” becomes the reason they never start at all.

Being on this cruise has given me some time to think about that.

I’m 54 years old, and I have no idea how much life I have between today and whenever my time comes.

But I’ve also been thinking about what those years actually mean.

They’re more years with Sandy.

More time with Haley and Cody.

More years watching my granddaughter grow up and seeing the woman she becomes.

That makes taking care of myself about a whole lot more than looking better or getting stronger.

I don’t just want more years. I want more good years.

Years where I’m healthy enough to travel. Strong enough to keep doing the things I enjoy. Capable enough to say yes when opportunities come along. Present enough to enjoy the people who matter most to me.

And at 54, there is absolutely no reason to believe my best years—or the best version of me—have to be behind me.

I can still get stronger.

I can still improve my health.

I can still challenge myself.

I can still experience new things.

I can become better at 55 than I was at 54.

My potential doesn’t have to be behind me. Some of it may still be ahead of me.

And the same is true for you.

You can’t go back and start at 25, 35, or 40.

But you can decide what happens next.

Whatever age you are today, you’re younger than you’ll ever be again.

Don’t spend the next 20 years wishing you’d started 20 years ago.

Start now.

A little preparation makes consistency a whole lot easier. ✈️💪

Getting my daily supplements ready for travel so I don’t have to carry around a bunch of full containers — and more importantly, so there’s no excuse to fall out of my normal routine.

🟢 Opti-Greens 50
Gut health • Digestion • 10+ servings of fruits & vegetables • Healthy blood-sugar response

🔴 Opti-Reds 50
Antioxidants • Fruits & berries • Heart health • Circulation

⚡ Endura-Formance
Creatine • Strength • Endurance • Hydration • Performance

🔥 L-Carnitine
Energy • Metabolism • Fat utilization

Why stay consistent while traveling?

Because travel is already going to change enough. My food will be different. My schedule will be different. My sleep may be different.

But one thing I have no intention of stopping is training.

I’m going to continue working out while I’m gone, which is another reason I’m bringing my Endura-Formance. I’ve been consistently taking creatine and using it to support my training, strength and performance. Going on vacation isn’t a reason for me to suddenly stop.

And here’s something else I think we sometimes get backwards…

A lot of people spend 40+ hours every week working for someone else. We get up early, stay late, meet deadlines and give our time and energy to our jobs — then tell ourselves we’re too tired or too busy to invest some of that same effort into ourselves.

I actually think vacation is one of the BEST opportunities to change that.

I’m going to relax. I’m going to enjoy the food. I’m going to enjoy the trip. But I’m also going to have more control over my time than I normally do.

So why wouldn’t I use some of that time to train, move my body and take care of myself?

Vacation doesn’t have to be a vacation from taking care of yourself.

Enjoy yourself. Relax. Have some fun.

But take a little time to work for YOU, too.

Consistency doesn’t require perfection. Sometimes it just requires a little preparation.

A few of my friends have had total knee replacement surgery in the last 30 days . @angie_zalinsky @tony.eason @kodiblue73

Like a lot of people, they've started to wonder what life is going to look like on the other side of it. What will they be able to do? What won’t they be able to do? Will life ever feel the same again?

I remember having those exact same thoughts.

So today, after leg day, I wanted to share with them a few videos from my workout.

Not to impress.

To encourage.

The first clip in this reel was taken just after my total knee replacement. The rest were taken today, almost exactly two years later.

I know every recovery is different, and no two people will have the exact same outcome. But if you’re facing this surgery or you’re in the middle of recovery, don’t let today convince you what tomorrow will look like.

Commit to your physical therapy. Stay patient. Keep putting in the work long after therapy ends. The work doesn’t end when physical therapy does. In many ways, that’s when it really begins.

These surgeries don’t have to be game enders.

Sometimes they’re exactly what gives you your life back.

Swipe through these photos…

You’re not just looking at six group pictures.

You’re looking at six years of friendships.

Six years ago, I had what I honestly thought was a crazy idea.

We spend so much time connecting online that I wondered…

What if we actually met in person?

Which is kind of funny, because from the time we’re kids, we’re all told…

“Don’t talk to strangers on the internet.”

“Don’t go meet people you don’t know.”

And yet…

Here we are, six years later, doing exactly that. 😂

Every year, people from across the country travel to St. Louis to spend a weekend together.

We work out.

We share meals.

We laugh.

We tell stories.

We create memories.

But those things aren’t the point.

They’re just the excuse.

The real reason people keep coming back is because of the relationships.

These aren’t internet friends anymore.

They’re vacation buddies.

They’re accountability partners.

They’re the people you call when life gets hard.

When I look through these pictures, I don’t just see six years of group photos.

I see friendships.

I see trust.

I see encouragement.

I see people from different backgrounds…

Different careers…

Different states…

Different walks of life…

All because they decided to say yes.

Yes to becoming healthier.

Yes to stepping outside their comfort zone.

Yes to meeting people who started out as strangers.

For six years, we’ve lived by a simple motto…

WAKE UP.

Wake up with purpose.

Choose to become a better version of yourself.

LACE UP.

Commit to the journey.

Do the work, even when it’s hard.

SHOW UP.

Show up for yourself.

Show up for your goals.

But most importantly…

Show up for each other.

Because fitness may have brought us together…

Relationships are what have kept us together.

To everyone who has been part of this journey…

Thank you.

The greatest thing we’ve built over the last six years isn’t stronger bodies.

It isn’t faster race times.

It isn’t heavier weights.

It’s the friendships.

It’s the community.

It’s the family you’ve built together.
