A moment in time
bnu has a history of its play of light with the building . The way light enters a space brings with it a certain character; a mood, a feeling, sometimes even a memory.
This photograph was taken four years ago, and it still holds a special place in my memory. The two benches facing each other are no longer there, but back then, they invited interaction. They became a place for introspection outside the studio, a place to jam under the rays of sun falling across the beams, the columns providing shade. When the benches were occupied, the path outside the studio compensated for it. Sometimes, when we were short on ideas, we would simply lie down on the benches and do nothing.

I dont know why i chatgpted the picture to make it in a better resolution, the real essence & true nostalgia lies in the second raw unfiltered image.

The viewpoint of this photograph is something else I keep thinking about. From the upper studios, when we weren’t part of the guftugu below, we could still watch it unfold. It almost felt as though we were equally a part of the conversation, just from a distance. There was something beautiful about witnessing a moment without necessarily being in it, a sight to behold. I don’t think I want to go back to the place.Not because I don’t miss it, but because I know it won’t be the same. Remembering those years is different from returning to the place where they happened. The people have changed, I have changed, and most importantly, that time has passed. Going back can’t bring those moments back; it can only make you realise that they’re gone. Some places are better left as memories, because no matter how familiar they still look, they can never hold the same life twice. by @tecturebyhafsa

Expansion as an Act of Reclamation

i dont know exactly how to start posting my year long thesis, maybe with the final 7 feet long section? My advisor said during a discussion on how ill be presenting my thesis “ a movie that starts with an end and the entire movie leads towards how does it get to that end, like ‘Momento’ “. Following that, this posting series starts from the end and ill unpack the process which led to it. Stay tuned!

About the sectional illustration:
Drawing from the tradition of speculative representation, this section positions architecture as a medium of critique rather than merely the production of buildings. The relationship between DHA and Charrar Pind is understood as the spatial manifestation of capitalist urbanization, where expansion operates as a continuous act of territorial reclamation. The collective will of the people of Charrar Pind, their capacity to expand, reconnect, and reclaim agency despite spatial confinement. Rather than proposing a conventional architectural solution, the project employs architecture as a speculative act of representation to emerge and coexist to reflect the reality of the society. The act of reclamation does not promise liberation; it merely shifts the balance of power. The proposal offers no final solution. Instead, it exposes a recurring urban condition in which cities continue to reproduce inequality through the accumulation of land, capital, and power. Until architects, planners, and developers begin to
question the systems that shape our cities.

Some frames for Lahore Biennale project “Rese(e)ding Worlds; seeds as living archives” at Mubarak Haveli (housing the Naqsh Art Complex ) ,a historic building located inside Mochi Gate in the Walled City area. Special thanks to @visualnarrativesco for this great opportunity. Really enjoyed being part of the documentation team.
I specially want to highlight the beautifully crafted kaghazi piyale with fresco on it,made & curated by @mohiudin_ghauri ; a ceramic and multimedia artist, (under the project “Echo of the Past” ) . This art is a specialty of Gujrat, my hometown. Things like these are a great reminder of the rich artistic traditions through contemporary practice.

some personal favorites from professional gallery

These ones are from when i learned HDR (High Dynamic Range) meaning combining multiple exposure-bracketed photos to show a much wider range of light, bright highlights, and deep shadows. I combined three photos taken at three different exposures to achieve this result. Did this because the area of subject was dark, and the motive was to achieve good quality photograph. I knew this setting long ago when my advisor told me about this but it wasnt until this that i actually tried it and the results were surprising. by @tecturebyhafsa
