Spoiler alert - don’t read the review if you haven’t seen. But some great points are made here.
“Now what” is what stayed with me. I don’t think many of us need a film to tell us that climate change is a terrifying, maddening thing to live through, or that political bloviating will probably block viable solutions, or that greed is degrading us and the planet. But I do love that a blockbuster film packed with enormous stars has posed the question: what does art mean at the end of the world? And, if we are honest with ourselves, do we just want art that tells us the truth, or reinforces what we already think?” by @ted.gold

The second Digger’s credits ran, a dude in the audience shouted, “That movie sucked. I should’ve left an hour ago.” There’s gonna be a lot of people like him and there’s gonna be a lot like me saying, “that was a masterpiece. It will deservedly be on a list of the best films of this century.”

Most of the criticism I’ve read - not a lot - talks about the film as - stating the obvious, lacking nuance, preachy, and/or not being funny. Fair criticism if you’re going in with a “here we are now, entertain us” attitude and you don’t want to feel stupid or contagious. See, this is a film where the joke’s on you. Or, all of us, rather. HAHAHAHAHAHA.

It is meant to be hyperbolic and amusing enough to hold your attention - but not like a mission impossible popcorn night out. Au contraire mon frere. Think of it more like a grand play with a complex structure and very simple story - about subjects we’ve all heard ad nauseum - climate change, fossil fuel addiction, corporate greed and plain ol’ unchecked narcissism at the top of industry and government. Funny stuff, right?

I mean who needs another message movie about this crap? We’re living it. There’s already too much to worry about. My weekends are my weekends.

Plus, we’re all going to die anyway. I mean if climate change doesn’t cause massive catastrophe within the next 10-50 years, the sun is surely going to kill us 5 billion years from now. Gonna melt all of us and the clocks, too. Like that painting.

Anyway, Digger is deep and the highest level of art - compelling us to process ubiquitous information in a different way - to feel it on a new psycho-emotional level. Personally, I was left in awe, utter amusement, shame, disgust - with a soupçon of more energy to not comply.

I believe Kubrick and Dali are giving standing ovations, more than a few Tom Cruise haters are bowing down, and Innaritu’s a God (of the cinema).
But what do i know. Careful with what you believe and who you let lead you. by @ted.gold

La Cabaña in Venice was not the absolute first to make handmade tortillas or food in front of people in all of Los Angeles, but it is historically recognized as the first Mexican restaurant on the Westside of Los Angeles to make handmade tortillas fresh on the premises for its dishes starting after it opened in 1963 at the time that novelty was almost seen as dinner theater. by @ted.gold

Foos X Dudamel - Foodamel? Dude Fighters? I can’t say this was my favorite foos performance. But i enjoyed it. My favorite numbers were the ones with the @dc6singers - they brought it and really seemed to fit their songs esp The Sky Is The Neighborhood. i love Gustavo Dudamel, it’s a loss for LA that he’s leaving - but some of these performances felt more novelty - missed both the rawness and intimacy. It made me think about lyrics “if only everything could feel this real forever “ - something about the intermediation of the orchestra that sometimes felt unreal. Literally orchestrated. But I’m quibbling. It was historic. They had never played together probably never will again. And this was first time Foos played the bowl. Night at the bowl w legends - great time and I’m a lucky man. by @ted.gold
