🟢 MENU PIVOT: Sashimi Ice Bowl?! Had to taste test it. Last week, @thesoranc in Myers Park pivoted from offering only a tasting menu to offering a la carte. Smart move IMO. They are now open for lunch too (Wed-Sat). Not sure people know yet, we were the only people there. Say hello to their Baku-inspired $65 Sashimi Ice Bowl and $25 Wagyu Burger. Tasty! 🟢 BIG CHARLOTTE GOLF NEWS: A new private golf club called The Trail is in the works on several hundred wooded acres southeast of Charlotte. Targeting a 2028 opening for golf.

Membership will be capped at 275. Invitation only. It will be a walking course with caddies.

Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, the team behind some of the most acclaimed new courses and major championship restorations in the country, will design the 18-hole course.

The project is led by founder Ryan Hanks, who built and owns the Hanse-designed private club High Grove in Florida.

Ryan told me The Trail is the next evolution of his Florida club and says it’ll be “pure golf with absolutely no houses.”

Plans call for an 18-hole championship golf course, an understated clubhouse by Thomas & Denzinger, the architects behind several of the Southeast’s most respected private clubs, and first-class practice facilities.

Hornets co-owner Rick Schnall is Ryan’s partner on the project, with Jay Levell of Long Road Partners also involved. Andrew Shuck will be The Trail’s Director of Golf.

I’m bullish. It’ll be oversubscribed. With waitlists nearly 10 years long at Charlotte’s established country clubs, there’s an insatiable appetite for premium golf in our city.

🟢 HOT START: Daybreaker absolutely crushed it during its debut last weekend!! Bullish. The premium sandwich pop-up at Cheat’s in South End sold 511 sandwiches before running out of bread halfway through Saturday.

Their team was hoping for $2,000 in sales but quadrupled that goal, hitting $8,000.

“We’re so grateful people are loving the menu our culinary director Ashley worked so hard on,” operating partner Ryan Hart told me. “Our focus now is just getting ready for this weekend.”

I swung by this morning for their No. 1 best seller, The Daybreaker breakfast sandwich ($11). Egg soufflé, Vietnamese sausage, garlic mayo, sesame, scallion, and chili crisp on a brioche bun. I can personally confirm its deliciousness.

🟢 HIDDEN GEM: Have you been to Finale Pizza?! Inizio owner Grant Arons creates hit with Finale “exceeding capacity” in a random Ballantyne strip mall. Foodie friends swear by it, so I took my fam on a $156 Tiny Money taste test investigation!!

Origin story: “As a pizza connoisseur, I recognized our city needed a contrasting style to Inizio’s softer, elastic, and fragrant crust,” owner Grant Arons told me. “Finale brings a firmer texture.”

Must try: $14 Cheese Bread. It’s a pillowy focaccia with a crispy cheese edge and a melty top. “Think of the best Detroit-style pizza you’ve ever tried.”

Investment: “No private equity or investors, so we have no problem growing two brands in the same city. Gives our team more opportunities.”

Vision: Think love child of Streamsong and Blackberry Farm. 1hr 15mins from Charlotte. Over the next 7 years, the sandhills golf destination plans to build 4 golf courses, main lodge with rooms, cabins, restaurants/bars, and a wellness center. Big vision. Big bet.
