Had a remarkably fun time with curator John O'Donnell at my Alchemy of Other Selves exhibit at Satellite Gallery in NYC. Monstrous curiosities were drafted on the walls by passers by. by @tedefremoff

ALCHEMY OF OTHER SELVES
Interactive video installation by Ted Efremoff
Sound: Drake Andersen
Video assets: Audrey Adams

Satellite Gallery
279 Broome St, New York, NY

Ted Efremoff’s moving-image work draws from medieval depictions of monsters and Cabinets of Curiosity - where the strange, grotesque, and wondrous coexisted. These sources serve as entry points into a visual investigation of the boundaries between fear and fascination, self and other. The artwork is not a resolution, but a slow turning acknowledgment of the volatility, radiance, and uncertainty within the evolving external and internal terrain. The Satellite Gallery exhibition of the artwork will include a participatory component.

Ted Efremoff is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker whose work spans moving image, photography, performance, and environmental art. His practice explores the environmental, personal, and cultural constraints ingrained within prevailing power structures, often bringing contemporary experience into dialogue with history, mythology, and place. His work has been presented in the United States and internationally, including at the Museum of American Art in Philadelphia, Gongju National Museum in South Korea, Associazione Culturale Spiazzi in Venice, and the Kjerringøy Land Art Biennale in Norway. His projects have been supported by NASA, the Fulbright Foundation, and the Association of American University Professors. His films have been screened at more than 50 international film festivals and have received 30 awards, including Best Feature Documentary. In 2026 his film, A Refugee’s Guide to Rome was selected as an official Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. A Refugee’s Guide to Rome can be currently seen on a variety of digital platforms.

ÆMPIRE\ is a curatorial project by John O’Donnell. Each exhibition examines the semiotics of power and the ways contemporary artists engage with systems of control inherited from history. by @tedefremoff
