Join us for our first tekFoundation Learning Lab: AI governance for charities and small businesses 🗓 Tuesday 10 November, Sydney (or recorded!)

AI can save your team serious time and many of us are already using it. The good news is that using it well doesn’t take a big compliance program or a tech background. It takes a few simple, sensible habits.

This practical morning session with Gaurav Chauhan, founder of Stipple AI and former Head of Generative AI at NAB, is about the governance side: simple, proportionate guardrails so your team can feel safe and confident using it.

You’ll leave with:
→ A clear way to tell everyday low-risk uses from the ones that need more care
→ A traffic-light guide your staff and volunteers will actually remember
→ Smart questions to ask before signing up to any AI tool
→ The handful of governance documents that give a small organisation real clarity
→ A realistic 30-day plan to get started

And plenty of time to ask the questions that will help you make the right decisions for your organisation.

Who's it for? Leaders, operations staff and board members at charities and small businesses.

📍 Martin Place, Sydney
 🗓 Tuesday 10 November, 8:30-10am
🎥 Can’t make it in person? Every ticket includes the recording.
💜 tekFoundation members attend free.

Our first co-hosted happy hour is next month🎉

This time we’re teaming up with @thelaptopinitiative , our newest member but a charity we’ve been friends with since our early days! They repurpose laptops businesses no longer need, and their IT volunteers get every device ready for frontline charities 💛

Two tech for good communities, one room, and plenty of chances to meet the people behind the work. Come along, make some connections and see what it’s like to be part of the tekFoundation ecosystem. See you there!

📅 Thursday 5 November, 5:30–8:30pm
📍 El Loco @ Slip Inn, Sydney CBD

“There’s a word for what Nick and I did the first few years of tekFoundation that I love and recently remembered - to coddiwomple.

It means to travel confidently towards a yet unknown destination. Pretty accurate 😂

For a while we honestly weren’t sure where this was going, we just wanted to help charities with their tech. Eventually that caused issues and we needed a plan, but getting to share all of it and answering questions about the process felt cathartic and was sooo fun. Also first time being involved in @sparkfestivalau 🥳

The chat was facilitated by @pledge1percent Australia and was intended to be a raw discussion on what it’s like to get started on creating impact through your business - specifically @nicksheps_ deciding to leverage @tekfinder to launch @tekfoundation_ .

One thing we covered was wondering if the connection to a recruitment business came with risks/if we needed to separate things - over time I saw that Nick’s passion (OBSESSION) with recruitment was our strength. When I started he got me a LinkedIn recruiter licence, gave me an insanely detailed overview and trusted me to go for it.

Nick explained that recruitment doesn’t always have the best reputation, but recruiters have access to people. In our case, that meant access to tech talent who wanted to help, plus the networks to find the people we needed when they weren’t already in our orbit. The thing we were worried about became the reason it all worked.

Every single person I met last night genuinely cared about bringing more good into the world, and I feel incredibly privileged that we got to be part of it.

Thank you also to @canva for hosting us in the space and Kathy Ngo for sharing context on the remarkable impact Canva’s foundation has had. And thank you to everyone that joined us! ”

New partner and new app alert - @able2_now 🥳

Over the last year we’ve watched Able2 work with charities in our network, and what stood out wasn’t just the technology, although that’s been seriously impressive! It was how founders Tom Stevenson and Simon Harris showed up. They were patient with organisations that don’t have IT teams, honest about what the product does and doesn’t do, and genuinely invested in whether it worked for the people on the other end.

And the more we saw, the more we wanted the same for our own community.

So tekFoundation community app is live in beta! An intentional space for our charity members, vetted volunteers and partners to connect, find opportunities and get to the resources they need year-round.

Tom flew down for our launch party earlier this month to be part of it, which tells you something about how Able2 approaches partnership. 💜 Simon, we’ll get you down next time!

Thank you Able2 for getting the app up and running so quickly. We’re excited to start rolling it out to our tech for good community 🙌🏼

Generosity is one thing. Generosity backed by real expertise is another.

The team at Aurguard came to tekFoundation wanting to give back - not as a one-off, but as a real contribution. So we connected Aurguard with Children’s Cancer CoLab, and the team got to work! 🙏

Across many pro bono hours, Aurguard helped strengthen CoLab’s cyber resilience - uplifting cyber defence capability and securing their environment.

Even better: it became a genuine learning and development opportunity for Aurguard’s younger team members, who built real-world skills, doing work that matters.

That’s what it means to turn community goodwill into real capability.

“Huge thanks for helping our organisation with all things cyber - your expertise and time are so appreciated. And many thanks to tekFoundation for the introduction to Aurguard.”

Dress for Success NSW & ACT has joined tekFoundation as a member!

With branches in Sydney, Western Sydney, Illawarra and Newcastle-Hunter, @dressforsuccessnswandact helps women across New South Wales into employment. Their signature service offers free clothing, styling, and presentation skills to women wanting to enter or return to the workforce or needing good clothes to present themselves well at an important life event. The clothing is theirs to keep, and there are no eligibility criteria - the services are open to any woman who feels she needs them.

Alongside the styling service, the DFS Career Hub is a free online community of more than 5,000 women, open 24/7 from anywhere in Australia for job search support, workshops and interview preparation.

In FY26 there were 3,645 women supported, 5,316 job readiness services delivered, 63,000 items of clothing saved from landfill, and 25,000 volunteer hours behind all of it.

Last Friday our co-founder Joni went to the Summer Hill space to meet CEO Sonia Casanova and see how it all comes together.

Donated clothing arrives and gets sorted with real care. What suits interviews and first days goes onto the racks. What is good but not necessarily work appropriate goes to pop-up fashion sales and events, where the proceeds come back into the programs. Shoes, bags, jewellery and makeup are all part of the styling alongside the clothing, there are fitting rooms, and each person works with her own trained volunteer stylist. It’s a truly genuine and well-curated experience that could change the course of someone’s future.

And while the outfit is the visible part, what’s also being built is the confidence to walk into an interview, or a first day, and belong there.

We’re now working with Sonia and the team on a set of digital projects to strengthen how they reach and support the women who come to them. That means well scoped volunteer opportunities for skilled professionals to put real expertise into work that is already proven.

Thank you for the tour DFS and we’re so excited to have you on board! taken in Sydney, Australia by @tekfoundation_

A first for us! 🥳 tekFoundation is a finalist in the 2026 Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards, in the Social Enterprise Business category.

This category recognises organisations applying strategies to maximise improvements in financial, social and environmental wellbeing.

We see this as a signal - digital capability for charities is being recognised as serious business, which is exactly where it belongs. 💛🙌🏼

Thank you to the team of tekFoundation people that made this a possibility for us. And to every charity and volunteer who do the real work behind this nomination. You’re the reason there’s anything to nominate! taken in Sydney, Australia by @tekfoundation_

Second Tech for Good happy hour of the year 🎉

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us last night! We tried something new this time - a round robin announcement circle. Anyone could take the floor for a minute to share about hiring, looking for volunteers, offering up their skills, or flagging an event coming up.

Matches started happening in real time and as the circle wrapped up you could watch people moving across the floor to swap details. 🤩

Charity leaders, skilled professionals and people who care about impact, all in one room to spark conversations that might not otherwise happen - we love to see it!

Next event is our tekFoundation 2.0 Launch Party, 17 September so save the date 🥳 taken in El Loco by @tekfoundation_
