An international arts experiment. Hundreds of collaborators from cities across the planet playing the game of TELEPHONE from art form to art form.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Our “Telephone” exhibit is about joy and curiosity, connection and communication—a few of our favorite things. @nathan.m.langston, Director of @telephone_community, and @amandamanitach, Patient Zero in the game, both say it beautifully and share more about how one work of art whispered around the world became our current exhibit.

Explore for yourselves! Both of our galleries are open Fridays 2-6pm, Saturdays and Sundays 12-4pm. We recommend saving some time to see it all 🥰 Also check out telephonegame.art to see all the connections.

Thanks to @films.about.artists for this short doc about the exhibit. Thank you also to all who came out for the opening last week. It was a much needed evening of connection and celebration 💜

No, stop. These are the names of the 1,393 artists that will be published by TELEPHONE in one week. You’ll have to zoom in on the image to see. Each one of them created a single, original, connected work of art for this game.

If you see weird characters in your name, it’s because the text export didn’t recognize all of the languages you wrote your names in. Don’t worry, it looks perfect on the TELEPHONE exhibition. On Friday, October 10th, this game is going to blow your mind.

It was exactly one year ago that the third game of TELEPHONE was published. Consisting of original and interconnected works by 1,395 artists from 930 cities in 65 countries, TELEPHONE remains the largest collection of contemporary ekphrastic art in history. On this anniversary, we hope you will revisit the online exhibition of this utterly epic game, which will remain available to the public for free in perpetuity. (Available at telephonegame.art)

We must specifically praise and thank the astonishing and tireless efforts of Matt Diehl, Ben Sarsgard, Katelyn Watkins, Kelly Jones, Ramon Rodriguez, Karim Shehadeh, Shawn Yue, and Sergio Rodriguez. For the massive physical exhibition in Seattle at Base Camp Studios, we express our deepest gratitude to Emily Andrews, Jeremy Buben, Paul Nunn, and Nick Ferderer.

At least three scholarly papers about TELEPHONE are forthcoming in 2027 in books being published by Oxford University Press, Routledge, and Bloomsbury Publishing. We’ll let all you theory nerds know when those are out.

While this was the largest project to date by Psychopomp Projects, we have remained busy here in the Pacific Northwest, most recently with our beloved fake church shows entitled SUNDAY SERVICE and another large scale project (still secret) that we’re cooking up for Spring 2027, and OOF! This one is gonna be fun!

Such deep love and admiration and gratitude to all y’all,

Nathan Langston | Director

Holy crap!! I found out that 2 scholarly papers I wrote about the TELEPHONE project have been accepted for publication. One is for a book being published by Routledge, edited by Dr. Oz Hardwick at Trinity. Another is a paper I wrote for a book being published by Bloomsbury, edited by Dr. Rachel Carney at Cardiff University. Then, same day, I get an email from Dr. Tong King Lee, Professor and Head of the School at University of Hong Kong, with a paper he wrote about TELEPHONE that’s being published by Oxford University.

All of them are coming out in 2027. Like... WHAT!?!

Guys?! Guys. I’m like a super fancy and very famous intellectual academic philosopher king now. I understand that many of you figured me for a drunken hobo, but no. If anyone needs me, just ring the buzzer at the doorstep of the ivory tower because I’ll be way up in the rarified air, just like... pondering stuff in the realm of spheres.

Dear homies, here’s a badass project that is near to my heart. Jack Ramsey started the Seattle Collaboration Society. They’re running interdisciplinary improvosation sessions on 2nd Thursdays, 6pm - 8:30pm out of Ballard Homestead. These are sessions for musicians, dancers, painters, writers, artists of any sort, to practice free improvisation and experiment together.

If you know me, you know that I wholeheartedly believe that this sort of cross-pollenation between art forms and disciplines is the quickest way to make giant strides forward, both for art and for our city. The best, most chaotic, most fruitful and fun parties and scenes are the ones in which all the art forms are smooshed together, influencing and pushing each other. Think Paris in the 1920’s or New York in the 70’s.

Follow these homies and participate! They’ve got big plans in the future, including large scale performances of the most successful early collaborations. This is EXACTLY what the city of Seattle needs right now. LET’S GO!!!

TODAY is your last day to see TELEPHONE at Base Camp Studios in Seattle! Such deep thanks to all of the international and local artists who contributed such gorgeous and interconnected work. Deepest of thanks also to Nick Ferderer, Paul Nunn, Jeremy Buben, and Emily Andrews for building such a compelling, one-of-a-kind exhibition!

TODAY is also the opening of a TELEPHONE exhibit and performance series in New York at the WOW Theater on the lower east side. You gotta go! There are almost 200 artists from NYC that participated in our little game and, more than any other aspect of this project, having individual artists and collaborators meet one another has been the most deeply rewarding. Such heartfelt thanks go out to Joi Sanchez and Stevie Famulari Gds and the rest of the crew in the Big Apple.

Featuring work by:

🫵🏾 👉🏾👉🏾👉🏾 Tomorrow at @wow.cafe & @thenotoriousrbj for live TELEPHONE (@elephone_community & @nathan.m.langston ). Prelude to… #3 — an organized confusion on the road to radicalism. inner voice plus noise equals resonance. You are needed. You are present. You are a part of it. Spaces are neither safe nor private; they are public and intimate when the point and field of view remain quiet; then the self becomes the many. I’ll be holding the space, creating sound, and developing collective intimacy. What collective warmth sounds like. Saturday 13th. This is “Cradle to the Grave (The Consequences of Crossing a Goddess)”. Inspired by a photo collage art piece from TELEPHONE, this work brings together three eerie animal figures to ponder the weight of mortality. Which parts of the arrangement are alive is up to the reader to decide, but dead or no, there is a haunting about this work. A deadly symbiosis, the deer, the snake, and the spider also harken back to the mythological tales of Achaeon, Medusa, and Arachne. Together, these animal mementos serve as a dire warning: this, mortal, is the consequence of crossing a goddess.

I had a lot of fun experimenting with different digital effects for this piece, specifically the gradient map and the glitch effect on Procreate. This one really let me step out of my usual routine and make something scary. Thanks again to @telephone_community and in particular Anthony Jolly’s work for inspiring this work!!
