“I’d be a tree in the background if I really needed to.”

Lashana Lynch on what it means to be in a film like this. Full Black cast, Black filmmaker, Black heads of department. A room where you’re respected before you even walk in, and where your vision gets protected alongside the director’s.

She told me that when stories like this get made, we have to show up for them. Loudly.

I didn’t get to ask her blood or bone.

What do we think? 👀

Kola Bodunde is one to watch 👀

He’s new to the big screen, and his excitement was contagious. He told me being in a room full of legends is something he’ll cherish forever, and it’s made him want to keep telling stories that inspire our people.

His biggest lesson from set? Don’t be fearful, because overcoming your fears is how you get better.

And blood or bone? His character picks bone. Every time.

Remember the name. @kolabodunde

“I felt magic.”

I asked Zackary Momoh what it was like being part of Children of Blood and Bone, and this is what he had to say.

He spoke about how rare it is to see Black stories told on this scale, where we get to be the heroes and the villains.

He said the film is huge, but it still takes time over the smaller moments too, like grief, and like feeling you’re not enough when your people need you to be strong.

Then I asked him the big one: Blood or Bone?

He said you need both.

And I hear it!

A wholesome chat with the woman tasked with bringing Orïsha to the screen.

Gina Prince-Bythewood on protecting the book, on Tomi Adeyemi, and on handling a cast that big — which she says wasn’t hard, because they had either worked together before or had wanted to work together for a while.

Then I made her choose: blood or bone. Soft approach, or ready to fight. She says she carries both.

And I believe her!

Seven years ago I read @ChildrenofBloodandBone and started @blacklistedbookclub because of it. Last week I was at BFI Southbank interviewing the director and cast of the film adaptation.

Life is mad sometimes.

First look at select scenes were epic!

Interviews coming.

The award-winning Nigerian Stage Production “Dear Kaffy” makes its highly anticipated London debut this weekend 7-9 Aug at the Shaw Theatre in London.

Following its successful run in Lagos and South Africa Dear Kaffy arrives in the United Kingdom for a limited three-day engagement, bringing an authentic, witty, and emotionally compelling Nigerian story to international audiences.

At the heart of the play is Kikelomo Olota (Kike), a successful 35-year-old woman navigating the complexities of love, family expectations, self-discovery, and societal pressure in contemporary Lagos.

Through moments of humour, heartbreak, music, and reflection, Dear Kaffy explores universal themes of identity, womanhood, love, and authenticity.

We caught up with Bolanle Austen-Peters who shares the importance of the play which charts the diary of a single woman in Lagos. Link in bio to book tickets.

You honestly never know who you’ll bump into at Cannes.

I spotted @nelliegbadebo and couldn’t let her get away without telling us all about this event she’s hosting tomorrow in East London. We found a little corner to chat… although “little” is generous because the background noise is LOUD 😂 so bear with us!

If you’re free tomorrow and fancy meeting new people, having girl’s bathrooms chat with GPs/professionals, trying something outside your usual Saturday routine, check out @wegettouchyfeely

We had the pleasure of being in the company of the legendary Prof Wole Soyinka earlier this week who was in conversation with Utopia Theatre artistic director Mojisola Kareem as part of the revival of his play The Swamp Dwellers.

Here he shares how he detested mathematics and mathematicians. Watch to see how he answered a question poised by @temtalkswith on making time to connect with the community and young minds.

Thank you to @temtalkswith for attending on our behalf.

#TheSwampDwellers continues at Utopia Theatre until Sat 11 Jul.

I’m so excited to finally share this…

I’ve officially been appointed the UK Travel Ambassador for Aké Arts & Book Festival 2026! 🇬🇧✈️📚

Last year was my first AkéFest, and I can honestly say it was one of the most inspiring experiences I’ve ever had. I went expecting a book festival and left with so much more. New friendships, incredible conversations, unforgettable panels and a renewed appreciation for the power of African stories. It genuinely changed the way I think about books, community and culture.

This year, I get to help others experience that magic too.

Aké Arts & Book Festival takes place in Lagos, Nigeria, from 19–21 November 2026, bringing together some of the most exciting writers, artists, thinkers and creatives from across Africa and the diaspora.

I’ll be organising a UK group travelling to the festival, and I’d absolutely love for you to join us. Whether you’ve always wanted to experience AkéFest or you’re simply curious, this is your sign.

✨ I only have a small number of spaces available.

If you’d like to come along, comment “AkéFest26 ✈️” below or send me a DM to register your interest, and I’ll share everything you need to know.

I genuinely can’t wait to return to AkéFest, and this time, experience it alongside an amazing group of readers, writers and lovers of African literature. ❤️ And trust me, I’ve curated some extra special VIP experiences for you especially.
