Ori Nui SF ‘26 🌁💃🏽

Another competition in the books, and what a weekend. 🌺

To our Teohinui dancers: you brought so much light and passion to that stage, and your love for ‘Ori Tahiti showed in every step. Titles come and go, but you are dancers through and through, and Te Ohi Nui is proud to have you represent us at every competition.

To our parents, families, and adult students: thank you for the fundraising, the travel, and every bit of help along the way. Whether you were there in person or cheering from home, your support was felt.

Heira’i Lehartel × Heikura Nui • Oh my heart... my sister’s first time entering the Heiva i Tahiti at 15yo in 1989. All I see is her innocence, her love of the culture, her love for our mom. I remember her solo night, just crazy energy in the audience. She was the youngest contestant that year. ‘Ori Tahiti has obviously changed a lot since then, but to this day, she is remembered as someone who has revolutionized the dance world in some way. If you know ‘ori Tahiti, then you know. From the way she tied her Pareu, to pointing her foot (patia, unheard of back then!), to showing emotions. I remember my mom and her training at the beach in the sand for hours to condition her. Every night at practice she was not allowed to take it easy. The way my mom pushed her in dancing has equipped her with so much mental strength and tenacity. Today, she is an amazing mom, my amazing sister, an artist, a teacher (art). She speaks fluent Reo Mã’ohi, can take down just about anyone, and isn’t scared of huge waves (nor eating it on the reef)! My overall hero🫶🏽❤️ taken in Tahiti, French Polynesia by @teohinui
