🥒 PICKLE FEST · 10–25 OCTOBER 🥒

The lineup you have been waiting for!

What started as a fairly simple plan to spend a couple of weeks celebrating pickles escalated. Quickly.

So. Here it is. Two weeks of pickled everything from @tern.basement - here’s what to expect!

🥒 PICKLE TASTING
5 pickles + 5 drinks · £15pp
75ml tasters, all also available by the glass. Plus the chance to win an entire jar of Lauryn’s pickles.

🖊️ PICKLE MENUS
A pickle takeover across our bar snacks menu from @johnnystanfordchef plus all pickles available with paired drinks and or something more substantial

🍺 SOUR BEERS
A rotating little selection of sour beers throughout Pickle Fest.

🍸 DIRTY MARTINIS
Pick and mix dirty martinis, because @laurynrebeca is a magician.

🌶️ HOT BUZZ
@hotbuzzuk are bringing the sauce and @unbarredbrewery drunken pickles all made in Hove. On the bar snack menu throughout Pickle Fest, then joining us properly for brunch on the 18th.

CONNECTING: THE MYCELIUM NETWORK

There is an entire world beneath our feet.

For this very special evening at Tern, we’re joined by Leo Utton - The Barefoot Forager, for five courses exploring fungi in all their strange, brilliant and interconnected forms.
Across the evening, @johnnystanfordchef will serve a five-course menu built around mushrooms and the flavours, landscapes and relationships that surround them.

Alongside it, @laurynrebeca will be getting equally stuck into the subject from @tern.basement . Five drinks will be created to accompany the menu, playing with mushroom tinctures, infusions and all sorts of other strange and brilliant things from The Basement.

Woven through dinner, Leo will take us considerably further down the rabbit hole.
We’ll explore the extraordinary ways fungi live and communicate; their relationships with plants, trees, animals and us; their place in food, medicine, folklore and ritual; and some of the stories, beliefs and mysteries humans have attached to them for thousands of years.

This isn’t a lecture followed by dinner. Conversation, food and drink will move together throughout the evening, with plenty of room for questions, curiosity and things we didn’t know we wanted to know.
And it doesn’t have to end with the fifth course. Afterwards, we can head down to The Basement, where the bar will be open for cocktails and the conversation can continue for anyone who wants to stay.
Part feast, part exploration, and a chance to look much more closely at one of the strangest and most important kingdoms on earth.

There are just 20 seats available for this one, and we expect them to go fairly quickly.

Clear your diary pickle fans. IT’S COMING! 🥒

It turns out when you suggest Pickle Fest, lots of excellent people get as excited! ✨

What started as a fairly simple plan to spend a couple of weeks celebrating pickles has, very happily, got a little out of hand.

So! For two weeks in October, we’re taking over The Basement. Pickle tasting, sour beers, dirty martinis, fried pickles, @hotbuzzuk, pickling workshops, pickle printing with our pals @hellohellododo and a long overdue Basement Social.

Over the road, @jshdavies at @noblerosetattoo is making pickle flash for the truly committed. @laurynrebeca is putting an entire jar of her pickles up for grabs if you can guess how many are in the jar. We’ll have @thirteenscorpios in spinning a trippy pickle set, and there’s plenty more a-pickling!

So if you’ve got a pickle-shaped idea of your own, apparently this is the time to tell us…

Three seconds of The Basement doing what The Basement does best.

Downstairs at Tern is our little cocktail bar, and while an awful lot of what we talk about tends to happen upstairs on plates, there’s a whole other thing going on underneath it.

Drinks built around the same ideas as the food: British ingredients, things we’ve made, grown, preserved, infused, fermented or generally fiddled about with, alongside English wines, local beers and plenty of very good things without alcohol too.

And a very large amount of that is down to @laurynrebeca, who is somewhere behind this wall of glasses! Making, pouring, experimenting, changing things with the seasons and keeping the whole thing moving while somehow managing to always be laid back about it, and consistently inventing drinks that will knock your socks off!

So, a little Friday appreciation post for Lauryn, The Basement, and the frankly heroic number of glasses she can juggle!
