🥒 PICKLE FEST · 10–25 OCTOBER 🥒

The lineup you have been waiting for!

What started as a fairly simple plan to spend a couple of weeks celebrating pickles escalated. Quickly.

So. Here it is. Two weeks of pickled everything from @tern.basement - here’s what to expect!

🥒 PICKLE TASTING
5 pickles + 5 drinks · £15pp
75ml tasters, all also available by the glass. Plus the chance to win an entire jar of Lauryn’s pickles.

🖊️ PICKLE MENUS
A pickle takeover across our bar snacks menu from @johnnystanfordchef plus all pickles available with paired drinks and or something more substantial

🍺 SOUR BEERS
A rotating little selection of sour beers throughout Pickle Fest.

🍸 DIRTY MARTINIS
Pick and mix dirty martinis, because @laurynrebeca is a magician.

🌶️ HOT BUZZ
@hotbuzzuk are bringing the sauce and @unbarredbrewery drunken pickles all made in Hove. On the bar snack menu throughout Pickle Fest, then joining us properly for brunch on the 18th.

Worthing screen-printing legends and all round wonderful humans @hellohellododo join us for a morning of pickle printing in The Basement, alongside the Pickle Fest menus.

⚡ NOBEL ROSE TATTOO · 10–25 OCT
As if we couldn’t get more excited, @jshdavies has created PICKLE FLASH for the occasion. Get yourself permanently pickled at @noblerosetattoo on Warwick Street, then come and show us what you got in The Basement.

And yes, there’ll be fried pickles.

We are absolutely delighted to say that Tern is officially back in the Michelin Guide, 39 Warwick Street.

This was lovely thing to come home to! This summer marks three years since we first opened Tern, and just over a year since our crowdfunder helped us take an enormous leap of faith towards creating the restaurant we have today.
There have been plenty of moments over those three years when what we were trying to do seemed completely impossible. A tiny independent restaurant in a seaside town, working with an intentionally narrow set of parameters, championing British produce and producers and doing things in a way that we were repeatedly told probably wouldn’t work.

So to see that work recognised nationally, and to have Tern back in the Michelin Guide in its new incarnation, means an enormous amount. This recognition belongs to the brilliant team around us, and to everyone who has been part of Tern over the last three years. Past and present, they have shaped this place, cared about it, and made it infinitely better. We couldn’t do it without them, and frankly, we wouldn’t want to.

And finally, we’re incredibly proud that all of this is happening here, in Worthing. My hometown, and a town whose food culture has changed enormously over the last few years. To still be here, still independent, still doing something pretty niche and contributing to that growing food culture feels very special indeed.

So much of what has made Tern possible has come through other people opening doors, making introductions, sharing knowledge, taking a chance on us and showing up. We want to keep doing the same in return. Creating opportunities where we can, forging connections between people, sharing what we have and making space for other people and ideas to grow alongside us.

Thank you to @michelinguide for the recognition, to our team for everything, and to everyone who has eaten, drunk, worked, supplied, collaborated, supported, backed or believed in Tern over the last three years.

I am very excited to announce an upcoming collaboration with @ternrestaurant in Worthing, a Michelin guide restaurant led by the amazing @johnnystanfordchef.

Everything they serve in the restaurant comes from the British isles, marking seasonality and the support of local food at the core of what they do, something very close to my heart.

This evening is a celebration of the weird and wonderful world of fungi. The restaurant will serve a 5 course menu inspired by and using mushrooms, the landscapes they inhabit and the plants they interact with. Alongside this 5 drink pairings will be created using mushroom tinctures and many other weird and wonderful concoctions from @laurynrebeca

This will be interwoven with discussions from me on the extraordinary roles fungi play and the relationships human beings have had with them for thousands of years, exploring deeper into the importance of how they interact with plants, trees and animals. Together we’ll explore this kingdom of life in conversation and in food.

Anyone thats been on a walk with me knows I’m never in a rush to leave! After dinner there is plenty of time to further discuss these topics as we move down to the Tern basement for drinks and late night chats.

There are very limited spaces available for this 20 seats total.

Tea, but make it a little more interesting. 🌿

Packs Bags & Leaves @packsbagsandleaves is a Sussex-based botanical tea company creating beautifully blended, naturally caffeine-free teas.

For us, it’s not just about a great cup of tea. Their ethos around creating accessible employment, supporting graduates of @sandprojectltd, and the fact they use sustainable, reusable and FSC-certified packaging.

Not only are their teas delicious hot but @laurynrebeca has also been having a little fun with them behind the bar, using them to bring flavour, depth and botanicals into our cocktails, with some extra health benefits 🍸
