✨ This BIG DAY definitely made it into my Happiness Jar! ✨

With Edward joining as a partner in October 2023, I was thrilled to begin the next chapter in the evolution of my little business.

Our rebrand in February 2024 marked a renewed commitment to plan smart, design smart, and manage smart - all to continue making a positive impact on our community.

Yesterday’s announcement represents another huge step forward in establishing Landwise as a leader in the planning consultancy world.

Having known Shannon for over 20 years - and having seen the outstanding work she’s done for the City of Hamilton, I have no doubt that, with her joining the partnership, we will continue to deliver excellence for our community and our clients.

Onward! 🚀

Yesterday was a very special day. I'm still processing it, still overwhelmed and so humbled.

In 2019, Mayor Eisenberger created the Order of Hamilton award to recognize citizens for community contributions. I am honoured to be named within this year's winners by Mayor Andrea Horwath.

I will start by thanking my nominators, Katelyn Gillis and Jennifer Badley. You two know how I feel about you, taking your time to organize an onerous submission. I was flabbergasted, to say the least. There may have been tears, happy ones. 🙏❣️

Volunteering with West End HBA is my pleasure as this association gives back to me in tenfold.

My time with YWCA Hamilton is, as everyone knows, my passion project. My family and I grew up with love but with very little. I committed to myself to work hard, and when my life was in a place to allow, I would give back, hoping to make a difference in lives and our community.

Thank you to my family and friends for sharing in my celebration.

To be within this amazing group of award winners is a special honour. Here's a link that provides more details.

Coffee in hand, time for my Sunday musing.💭

Last Sunday marked the end of my service as the West End Home Builders' Association (WE HBA) representative on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Home Builders' Association (OHBA).

Over the past three years, I had the privilege of serving alongside and through the presidencies of Dave Depencier, Mike Memme, and Christina Giannone. It was a period of significant change and transformation for OHBA, and I am grateful to have played a small part in helping advance the association's work during that time. 🙏

The experience gave me a much deeper appreciation for the important work being done across the province and the dedication of local home builders' associations in communities large and small. It also provided invaluable insight into the challenges and opportunities facing our industry, and the collective effort required to move it forward.

Most importantly, however, it was about the people.💥

I leave with a lifetime of relationships built with thoughtful, intelligent, and deeply committed individuals who consistently put the interests of the association and the industry ahead of themselves. The conversations, debates, collaboration, and friendships have made me better, both professionally and personally.

Tom, I have absolutely no doubt that your year ahead as Chair will be a huge success, OHBA is in good hands. To everyone I had the opportunity to serve with, thank you. It was an honour. I am proud of what we accomplished together and excited to see what comes next for OHBA and its member associations.

And, as always, thank you to the team at Landwise for supporting my time spent on my community commitments, you are the best!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday. ☺️

Honoured to be recognized as an Alumni of Distinction as Mohawk celebrates its 30th year of recognizing graduates who have made meaningful contributions in their professions and communities.🙏

Mohawk has played an instrumental role in my journey, and I remain grateful for the education, relationships, and values that helped shape both my career and my commitment to community service.

The journey that began at Mohawk ultimately led me to become the founder and president of Landwise, a path filled with opportunities to innovate, lead, and contribute to the industries and communities we serve.

It is a privilege to be part of a remarkable group of alumni whose accomplishments reflect the lasting impact of a Mohawk education. Congratulations to this year's recipients, and congratulations to Mohawk College on 30 years of celebrating excellence, leadership, and service. 🌟

Thank you for continuing this inspiring tradition. I look forward to October's celebration 🎉

Get @reshare_app • @landwise.team Please join us in congratulating Terri Johns, Founder and President of Landwise, on being recognized by Mohawk College with this distinguished award.

Terri’s years with Mohawk helped shape the leader she is today. The relationships she built, the lessons she learned, and the values she carried forward became part of the foundation on which Landwise was built. Her experience at Mohawk not only contributed to her personal and professional growth but also helped create a stronger, more customer-focused Landwise.

Since founding Landwise, Terri has led with vision, integrity, and a deep commitment to building meaningful partnerships and delivering exceptional value to customers. This recognition reflects the impact of her leadership, her dedication to the industry, and the respect she has earned throughout her career.

We are incredibly proud to see Terri honored by an organization that played such an important role in her journey. Congratulations, Terri, on this well-deserved recognition. Your Landwise family is celebrating alongside you.

Sunday musings and some personal news! 📰

My journey with Kemp Care Network as a professional planner has come to an end, but I am thrilled to share that I have accepted an invitation to join its Board of Directors. 🙋‍♀️

In 2016, T. Johns Consulting (now Landwise) was retained to assist Kemp Care Network in exploring the addition of a children's hospice to its services. Following a feasibility study and support through a challenging site selection process, the City of Hamilton identified surplus lands on the Wentworth Lodge campus on South Street West. Our planning review confirmed the site was well-suited for the project, with appropriate zoning and sufficient land area. Under the leadership of Jennifer Badley, the project advanced through design and successfully obtained Site Plan Approval late last year. Finding the right site was not easy, making this milestone all the more meaningful. I am proud to have been part of the team that helped move this vision from concept to approved development.

Now, under the leadership of Board Chair Diane Murray and CEO, Danielle Zucchet, I look forward to learning even more about the organization's mission and supporting the incredible work being done across the network. Most of all, I look forward to being there when the doors of Keaton's Place – Paul Paletta Children's Hospice open to the community. ✂️

Mike, thank you for your thoughtful article on the project. In my volunteer work, I have been a strong advocate for community-building, and this hospice is a powerful example of what can be achieved when vision, collaboration, and compassion come together. 🙌

I am humbled to continue my involvement in this important work and excited to contribute in a new capacity. Looking forward to this new challenge and to helping support the future of Kemp Care Network. 🦾

This past week, I attended my final YWCA Hamilton Board meeting… and I’m still sitting with all the feelings. 🤍

What started with Denise Christopherson tapping me on the shoulder and saying, “We need you on our Board,” turned into a decade I never could have imagined.

I thought I was joining to help bring the Ottawa Street project to life and yes, seeing that through was a career highlight. But YWCA Hamilton gave me so much more than that.

Over 10 years, I had the privilege of learning, growing, and being part of something truly meaningful. From strategic plans and governance work, to standing in front of 1,000 people at the Women of Distinction Awards (a moment I’ll never forget)… and watching the organization grow from a $10M to a $32M impact.

That kind of growth doesn’t happen without extraordinary leadership. Denise Christopherson, Medora Uppal, and the entire YWCA Hamilton team - thank you for your vision, your courage, and your commitment to this community.

But what I will carry most is personal.

YWCA Hamilton challenged me to think differently, to understand inclusion and equity more deeply, and to be better - not just in my work, but in who I am.

A decade of learning. A decade of purpose. A decade for which I’m so deeply grateful.

🤍🙏

Saying goodbye to February and sharing Sunday musings. 💭

Last week, I was honoured to be part of a panel on behalf of FirstOntario Credit Union. Thank you, Joanne, for the invitation to sit at the table with 3 rockstar women. 🙏

As much as I find these overwhelming because I still get butterflies. Yes, 4 decades in and the 🦋 are fluttering. The win out of participating is it forced me to take time and reflect on my experiences. One of the questions that we didn’t get to answer was “What was the best piece of advice you have received”.

My first boss often said to me: YOU ARE YOUR SECURITY. 💥

I will admit that for years, I didn’t fully understand. After starting Landwise in 2014, I quickly got it.

No one is coming to secure your future for you.

Not your employer.
Not the market.
Not the economy.

Security isn’t a title. It isn’t a paycheque. It isn’t a corner office.

It’s competence.
It’s reputation.
It’s relationships.
It’s doing the work when no one is watching.

In planning and in business - the only real security is the value you create and the integrity you build over time.

Own your growth.
Own your mistakes.
Own your success.

Because in the end, you are your own security.

That time between Christmas and New Year’s always invites reflection on the year behind and the one ahead. 💫

Thank you to WEHBA for the acknowledgement in your Year in Review as I complete my final Board term in 2025. It has truly been a privilege to serve. Congratulations as well to new Board members Monica Carnicelli of Carriage Gate Homes and Stefano Guglietti of Melrose Investments—thank you for your commitment to the association.🎉

I am deeply grateful to my Landwise team for their support over the past seven years, always ensuring our clients and projects remained a priority.🙏

While I may be retiring from the WEHBA Board, I am excited for 2026 - continuing my board work with YWCA Hamilton and, alongside Edward John, furthering the growth of Landwise. ‼️

Cheers to what’s ahead.🥂

Welcome to the @landwise.team open house ✨

Had the pleasure of capturing this event back in November.
There were some many shots I wish to have included here…
I think if the city ran “Most Beautiful Set of Employees” competitions among local businesses, this team would win easily. by @terriljohns08
