To my Te Varua ‘Ori family,

For twenty years, I have had the privilege of watching so many of you walk through our doors—some as little children, some as adults, some unsure of yourselves, and some simply looking for a place to dance. And somewhere along the way, we became part of each other’s stories.

I have watched little girls become women. I have watched students become teachers, leaders, mothers, and friends. I have watched families grow alongside us. I have watched people leave and, beautifully, find their way back again.

There were seasons of incredible joy and seasons that stretched me more than anyone knew. There were moments when I wondered how I could keep going. But God was faithful through every single one of them. Looking back now, I can see His hand over this studio from the very beginning, even when I wasn’t always acknowledging him.

Te Varua ‘Ori belongs to every dancer who stepped onto our floor. Every musician who played. Every parent who drove to practice, waited through rehearsals, fixed costumes, encouraged their child, and trusted us with someone they loved. Every teacher who poured out their heart. Every person who helped behind the scenes when no one was watching.

You are Te Varua ‘Ori.

As this chapter closes, my heart is full.
There is sadness, of course. But there is also overwhelming gratitude. Your post, letters, flowers, and hugs mean more than I can say!!

Thank you for allowing Te Varua ‘Ori to be part of your story. And thank you for becoming such an important part of mine.

The doors may close, but the flame remains.

The Everlasting Flame is an original dance production by Te Varua ʻOri, weaving Tahitian dance, live percussion, storytelling, and narration into a powerful journey of purpose, perseverance, and legacy. As our 20th Anniversary Show and final production, this performance celebrates 20 years of dance, community, memories, and the legacy we’ve built together. Through Mārama and her sacred flame, Te Ahi, we are reminded that the gifts we receive are not meant to be kept, but faithfully passed on. ❤️

So thankful for this moment!!

Every practice, every sacrifice, every prayer—it all led here!

I’m incredibly grateful for my mentors from Tahití and dear friends who supported us from a far. My creative team who worked with me through all the creative blocks, designed those gorgeous dresses, detailed formations and beautiful music arrangements - what a team for an overall picture! Staff who helps work all the details in the background and helps hold things down. Our beautiful dancers and our talented musicians who gave their whole hearts from preparation to the stage! Thankful for our families who support us endlessly, and for the strength God gives to keep showing up!

This was more than a performance… it was purpose in motion. ✨

To my staff,

I’ve tried to think of the right words to say to you, and the truth is, I don’t know if there are words big enough. Because you were never just my staff.

I know there were times I expected a lot from you. There were times I was overwhelmed, distracted, stressed, or so focused on getting everything done that I probably didn’t stop and tell you enough how much I appreciated you.

Because I noticed more than I probably ever said. I noticed when you stayed longer than you had to. I noticed when you loved on a dancer who needed a little extra attention. I noticed when you stepped in without being asked. I noticed when you protected the vision. I noticed when you carried something because you knew I was already carrying too much.

There were seasons when I felt like I had to be strong because everyone was depending on me. But the truth is, there were many times when you were the ones holding me up. I don’t think you will ever fully understand what that meant to me.

When I look around Te Varua ‘Ori, I see pieces of all of you everywhere. You left your fingerprints on this place. And that means when these doors close, what you gave doesn’t disappear.

That is part of YOUR legacy.

God was and is faithful. He was faithful when Te Varua ‘Ori began. He was faithful through every high and every low. He was faithful when I was strong. He was faithful when I was tired. And He was faithful when He brought each of you into this story. I don’t believe that was an accident. For a season, God allowed our lives to meet here. And what a beautiful season it has been.

So as we walk away from this chapter, please know that I am not walking away thinking, “Look what I built.” I’m walking away thinking, “Look what God allowed us to build together.” And I will forever be grateful that He chose YOU to build it with me.

Wherever life takes us from here, you will always be part of Te Varua ‘Ori. And you will always be part of me.

It’s has been a true honor and blessing to have each of you by my side.

Captured moments of the journey to Te Varua ‘Ori’s 20th anniversary and final production — Auahi Mure’ore.

TVO has been my constant for so many transformative years. Through several seasons of high school, college, grad school, the pandemic, through grief, new friendships and family, new careers, birthdays, engagement … all celebrated here. Just as we all grew up and evolved within these walls, the studio and TVO legacy, too, has to evolve by closing this chapter and entering a new one.

There’s much more to say that can’t be put into words just yet. But thank you @angela_liavaa_tvo for this chance to portray Mārama in such a special special special show, alongside Jaidyn as Te Ahi. These roles mean so much to us. I’m still in disbelief that this is even real.
