Jennifer Collier ZOOM workshop.
Stitched paper gloves.
8th October 10.00am - 3.00pm.
Stitched Paper Gloves: I demonstrate how to patchwork papers to create the ‘fabric’ for the gloves, show ideas to decorate such as paper Suffolk Puffs, mini paper roses and decorative hand stitches like Cross Stitch, Blanket Stitch and a beautiful Venetian Needlelace stitched edge. I also show you how to put these together and construct the gloves, as well as covered bindings, button loops and covered buttons to add fastening.
Participants can choose to hand or machine stitch the papers in this
workshop, and I will give you hints and tips for both. *Each participant will need to print a copy of the template I email in advance of the workshop.

In this online talk Jennifer will talk you through her route to practice, from graduating with a degree in Textiles in 1999, her transition from textiles to paper, through to her current obsession with translating lost heritage stitches for use on paper…
Paper pioneer Jennifer Collier creates exquisite sculptures from vintage recycled materials in conjunction with stitch; a contemporary twist on traditional textiles. The papers serve as both the inspiration and the media for the work, with the narrative suggesting the forms. Through this marriage of unlikely materials old papers are transformed into something truly unique, delicate and complex. by @textile_explorers

Justine Warner - 2 Day Workshop.
‘Woodland in Recycled Fabrics’
September 17th and 18th.
10:00am - 4:00pm.
At Siddington Village Hall Congleton Rd, Siddington.

Participants will spend two days learning new techniques including blending and layering of different recycled fabrics to make the artwork look “painterly”. They will create a woodland picture based on a season of either autumn, summer or spring which will be rich in texture and vibrancy.
Each technique will be demonstrated as well as individual support.
The aim will be to have a completed woodland piece by the end of the two days that can be embellished at home.

Toni Buckby - Zoom Talk - History of Blackwork.

September 2nd @ 7:30pm - 9:00pm.

Silk thread on white linen, was one of the most fashionable techniques of the 16th and early 17th centuries. Found on intimate garments and household textiles, it shifted in style and method over the hundred years of its popularity. Today, only a handful of fragile examples survive.
Those that remain are in various stages of disintegration, due to the iron-based fixatives once used in black dye. Because of this, portraits from the period provide some of the richest records of Blackwork embroidery in use. This talk will trace the stylistic development and application of blackwork through these surviving examples and portrait evidence.

A super zoom talk to end the year on!
An overview of Emily’s career as a stitch artist whilst talking about what inspires her and her process.

About Emily

Emily exhibits internationally and regularly across the UK in group and solo shows. Winning a Kent Creative award in 2017 for Visual Arts (non digital) and the Behind the Artist Portrait Prize in 2023. Selected for the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition, Mall Galleries, Wells Art Contemporary, Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize (2015, 2023) and has been a contestant in Sky Art’s Portrait Artist of the Year (2014).

Emily’s inspired by the everyday, but in particular the underdog. She considers herself a storyteller, creating works that highlight environmental plights and wonders or hints at the private life stories of people.

We’ve had a fantastic selection of workshops and talks.
