Icon 13 is a wrap and it was, truly, an amazing time. I attended to give portfolio reviews in my capacity as a book designer, but I found my illustrator core being activated by the experience, research, creativity, and inspiration shared by the brilliant people all around, both on stage and off.

Haven’t posted in forever. Let’s go.

2025 ended with a celebration of a century of life, gathering with family as Lor’s grandfather turned 100 on his birthday, New Year’s Eve. A hopeful finale for a trying year.
2026 began more quietly. Walks in the refreshing cold, enjoying good food, reading books.

Today, Lor and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary (we’re flying out of Chicago tomorrow on the actual date).

We went to the Art Institute. We bought new instruments of our crafts (pens and paper) at the amazing Atlas Stationers. And between these two stops we paused at the Chicago Cultural Center to bask in the beauty of the original public library’s astounding mosaics and Tiffany dome. A temple to books. The things we spend our days making.

My best friend is as devoted to the power of a beautiful story as I am. Before I ever saw their face or heard their voice, it was words and stories that brought us together and forged our bond. We support each other, we laugh at the same stupid things. We melt with delight over the sublime and giggle over the beauty in the mundane. We’ve built a life and a family together.

That feels just as grand as any chandelier or dome or soaring tiled archway.
