Heading to Austin this weekend for @hotluckfest and then on Sunday night it’s the main event: An American Culinary Curiosity Dinner with the one and only Aaron Franklin at @franklinbbq Backyard!

I can’t tell you how excited I am to collaborate with Aaron, America’s most celebrated pitmaster. Together we’ve put together a menu of rare regional American dishes from all over the country, delicacies that are hard to find outside their hometowns and almost never served in Austin, and Aaron is putting his own unmistakable smoke & fire stamp on every one of them.

For one night only, we’re bringing back the glamour of the Jet Set era, when airline food was extravagant, ambitious, and sometimes completely unhinged! Join us for a seven-course seated dinner built from real vintage airline menus, from the earliest passenger flights of 1919 to the final Concorde service in 2003.

We’ll be dining in the incredible Great Gallery of our event partner The Museum of Flight, surrounded by legendary aircraft, with every course brought back to life by the fantastic chefs of McCormick & Schmick’s.

Yes, lobster and caviar will be served (among other delights).

Yes, there will be cocktails and vintage airline uniforms (and many other surprises).

Elegant and/or vintage attire encouraged!

I’ll be hosting the night with a funny slideshow and commentary on a century of dining in the skies.

Aaron is teaming up with TV writer and food historian Bill Oakley (The Simpsons, Futurama, Portlandia) for An American Culinary Curiosity Dinner in Austin.

Bill’s coming to town to talk about this lineup of rare, hyper-regional and delightfully weird American dishes you pretty much never see in Central Texas. Aaron’s taking those regional favorites and putting his own fire-and-smoke spin on ’em.

It’s part seven-course feast, and part culinary history lesson, with Bill filling us in on the stories, traditions and strange bits of lore behind what’s on the plate.

Known for his Emmy Award-winning writing for The Simpsons, Portlandia, Futurama, and Mission Hill, Bill is coming to Turkey and the Wolf on Friday and Saturday, September 25-26, to share amusing anecdotes and culinary commentary about the world of unusual American foods.

But the real star of the evening is the food. Greetings, passengers! This is your Captain speaking. Prepare for takeoff on another adventure in Bill Oakley’s The Greatest Airline Meals of the 20th Century! ✈️🍽️👨‍✈️🍸

This time, we’re landing in Seattle on Saturday, November 14 at the @museumofflight for a one-night-only, seven-course seated dinner and after-party, featuring some of the most lavish and notorious dishes that ever graced the skies — all served with a side of humor by Emmy Award-winning comedy writer and food enthusiast @thatbilloakley!

Of course, we had to do a little scouting trip first! Our event sponsor @alaskaair gave us and @vanessapdx of @straightawaycocktails the ultimate behind-the-scenes experience at their Global Training Center. We flew the exact flight training simulators used by real pilots (turbulence and all!), did a uniform fit check, and put our customer service skills to the test at the mock gate training station. 😅
