In 2025 my film got into BIDEODROMO International Experimental Film Festival, making me one of the five Singaporeans in the course of the festival’s 15 years to do so. Loved ones encouraged me to go and chipped in for the airfare, and off I went on a whirlwind trip that has changed the trajectory of my life in ways that I never imagined. At a bar in Bilbao, I learnt of the festival’s partnership with Taiwan and spontaneously pitched them a similar one with Southeast Asia. I don’t know what possessed me in the moment to do so, the way I do not know what possessed their festival director to say yes to me off the bat. But it’s a yes, and off I went.

A crazy year and one weekend later, (blank) Experimental Film Festival launched its first edition. I am very proud of the program and line-up we had going. Swipe for my letter to the people attending the festival and why I am doing this. Still collecting all of my thoughts and feelings about this night but to quote my bestie’s 3 year old niece: what the heckie.

What the heckie. What a day, what a night, what a joy to be able to show that different isn’t bad. Different is just well, different. Sure, maybe it’ll overwhelm you so much you have to sit in the festival village for a bit before taking a deep breath and going back in. Maybe it left you there overstimulated for a bit and you wonder if this counts as a psychedelic trip. Maybe you too watched the films and went, “what the heckie”. Whatever your thoughts and feelings are from the festival, I think I can confidently say: we left a strong impression.

May it stay with you til our next edition.

Raey Ang is a Singaporean filmmaker with 10 films under her belt as a writer-director. This showcase will screen 6 of her best works, with 1 never-before-screened film from the earliest part of her filmmaking journey. Having been overseas for a decade, she is thrilled to be able to finally share her work with her fellow countrymen. Swipe for details on the films!!

All proceeds from this showcase will go towards (blank) Experimental Film Festival’s inaugural edition on 19th September 2026.

Thank you to my friends who came out to make this with me!!

This film was an accumulation of a few things for me - I had the idea for this 1 minute film but didn’t feel particularly compelled to make it until National Day this year, when that AI-product-marketed-as-a-movie was released, saying it was for Singaporeans. Sure, you can say that, but so is this. This is what I, a human Singaporean, is making for my fellow humans.

Based on a true story that happens to me on a semi-regular basis, where people often don’t think I am Singaporean because of oh I don’t know, the way I talk or dress or look… Singaporeans come in all shapes and forms and so do our stories. Now more than ever, I think we ought to keep telling our stories. No one can make Singaporean art or tell Singaporean stories other than Singaporeans. Even if you just doodled something on the back of your hand right now, congratulations, that’s yours. That’s your art. And if you are Singaporean, that’s your Singaporean art. We shouldn’t have to wait for box office numbers or curators or laurels or newspapers to tell us what is art or good or ours. Even if it’s not perfect, it’s still fucking ours.

There can be AI “art” or “movies” representing Singapore and telling Singaporean stories. I just want to remind you, in my own little way, that that is not all we have. That is not all we have to settle for. And if you don’t like what the current market has to offer, then make yours. Go make your art, tell YOUR Singaporean story.

This isn’t perfect, but it’s real, and now - ours.

TLDR? It doesn’t have to be perfect. Even fucking AI ain’t perfect. Do it anyway.

🇨🇦 canadian tuxedo in singapore 🇸🇬

A fortnight ago, I got to share my film Clouded as part of a program showcasing films made by Singaporeans beyond our shores. It's always a little nerve-wrecking for me to share my work, for there is so much of me in them that it makes me incredibly exposed but even more so amidst my countrymen. What if I've been gone too long? What if this reveals that I am too Singaporean for foreigners but too foreign for Singapore? What if what if what if I am strange and different and therefore doomed anywhere anyway?

As you might guess, these were just my thoughts tuned into the Fear & Anxiety Channel, dissipated by the kindness of strangers and friends alike. To find community is one thing, to be accepted by it is another, and I have been so fortunate with the friendships forged thus far ✨️

I look forward to be able to share more news real soon!! and to furthering these friendships!! Much love to all who came 🩵💟💖

Okay this is probably one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me: Clouded's next Official Selection is at BIDEODROMO International Experimental Film and Video Festival 2025!! 🎉🍾

To be recognised by such a prestigious team in the international avant grade film scene is such a thrill. Experimental film is already so niche, let alone doing it as a Singaporean artist, so I am really humbled and grateful for this affirmation 🫶

Thank you for having us and we can't wait to screen in Bilbao, Spain!! 🇪🇸🎥
