Mini Collage Quilt Workshop

Let's play with fabric! We will reimagine fabric as a medium for artistic exploration. Participants will have the chance to manipulate reclaimed textiles, transforming them into unique visual narratives. Join us in this hands-on workshop that honors the diverse potential of fabric as an essential element of contemporary art.

This project presents two exciting creative outcomes! Participants can choose to create a fabric quilt collage on paper or embark on an extended journey by crafting a mini quilted object. #makelabpopup taken in Downtown Fullerton by @the.make.lab

This is my Make Lab fit on Friday.

Me Made: @stitchwitchpatterns, #bathursttop.

I had back-to-back Make Lab events last week (a milestone!), and only a handful of photos to document them.

On Friday night, I popped up at the Make Building in Anaheim with my Bead Bar, and on Saturday afternoon, I brought my Brick Printing experience to Swap Mommy, a clothing exchange event. Giving people permission to make something, to use their hands, to take time to enter a playful mindset is my goal. I really feel called to curate and activate spaces for people, from 0-100, to engage with materials to exercise their playful bones.

I’m growing Make Lab at (what feels like) a slug’s pace, but that’s how I do things, slow and steady, one tiny step at a time. Letting things unfold in their own time, gaining confidence in myself to make Make Lab real (so many challenges for a quiet introvert). I’m proud of how Make Lab has grown so far, but my vision for it is so much bigger.

I intentionally set up Make Lab experiences to offer curated materials and tools in a space where the conditions for play are conducive for anyone who would like to participate, with minimal direction from me. My role during an event is to help solve construction problems; help someone rethink a mistake from the lens of opportunity; and lifeguard, maintaining studio space safety. I facilitate play.

On Friday, I hosted a Shadow Lab pop-up at the Make building. I brought in cardstock, cardboard, feathers, pipe cleaners, and tape, and let people explore how to shape the materials into imaginative shadows. I designed a moving image projected stage (I have some great ideas on how to edit it for a more playful experience next time). It was so delightful to watch all the makers do their thing! There was no right or wrong, good or bad. Just participating and play.

Thank you to @anaheimmake for sharing your space, and thank you to everyone that stopped by to play and make!
