New corals don’t just “grow” once they’re planted. When we attach coral fragments, especially Coral of Opportunity, they’re still in a really fragile stage. They aren’t properly secured yet. Over the following weeks and months, they slowly try to attach themselves and become part of the reef again. And in that time, everything around them matters more than you think. What I was taught to call a “coral-killing sponge” is one of the things we look out for. It can spread across surfaces, compete for space, and slowly take over the area the coral needs to attach and survive. So what I’m doing here is simple.I’m just coming back in and gently brushing around the fragments, clearing space for them. Giving them room to breathe, to hold on, and hopefully to make it through this early stage.Reef restoration isn’t really about one big action. It’s about these small, repetitive moments most people never see underwater. But they’re often the ones that make the difference. 🪸🐠🫶🏼Ps : My hair decided to steal the show and I’m here for it 🤷🏼‍♀️#coralrestoration #coralreef #marineconservation #citizenscience #paditv by @the.scubagirl

Actually found a way to « fix it » and the result is live on my long form platform IYKYK 🤪👀I decided that this year I was going to post it all, even the unperfect footage, the footage most people would never look back on or try to save. I decided that showing up with the whole process is better than waiting for the perfect moment or being overly sick about some mistakes that help you take a step back and think about what went wrong 🤍 There is beauty in all stories, and this one is definitely about second chance and bad exposure / white balance ! #youtubechannel #contentcreator #underwatervideo #uwvideo #scubagirl by @the.scubagirl

Taking back my power, one double chin at a time 🤪I have gained weight over the last few years. I have felt “not enough”, “too big”, comparable, replaceable, “less than” even. So many unkind words I would tell myself in my head, creating something that, when someone commented on my body, I felt the need to justify the “why” I looked this way.But the truth is, this body has been through so much more than what the eyes can see. It has carried me through it all. And this is why I have the duty to respect it, love it, nourish it, and let it be seen to. Because without this physical image that wraps my soul, deep inside is buried this little flame that always fought to stay alive, even when I did not feed it, even when I hurt it, even when I let it down.Lately, you have seen a lot of people online talk about body image, I am sure. And I love when the internet reopens this topic because it helps people like me be able to show people like you that nobody has a perfect body. Everyone will have things they hate about themselves, and everyone will always want what they don’t or can’t have.I am so deeply grateful today for this body, this envelope that carries me through the toughest times, that is so strong and that doesn’t let itself down even when I do. The more you listen to it, the more you can understand the patterns and break them. But you have to really listen, not try to make it do or hear what others say. It’s only you versus you in this battle.Because at the end of the day, when you leave this earth, nobody will remember what you looked like. They will remember your smile, your laugh, your kindness and warmth, your way of fighting fear, and the resilience you showed while being taught life’s lessons.I am lucky because I still get to use it however I please. And that’s life’s greatest privilege. And it deserves it all, just for that one reason. So I am taking back my power by trying to show sides of myself that I would have never dared to show before.Thank you to my amazing and patient photographer 📸 @lucky.leor by @the.scubagirl

I grew up on the same volcanic black sand, Réunion Island shaped my family in more ways than words could describe. Coming from a Pied-Noir family with French Algerian roots, it also shows in the way my skin tans. My mother is from Normandy, close to the beach, my father from New Caledonia, and I’ve always felt this deep connection to the ocean and more broadly to bodies of water. For my last year in my 20s, I want to share more of the little things in my life that shaped the woman I’m becoming. My upbringing was a huge part of that.📸 @lucky.leor #29 #scubagirl #scuba #paditv #discoverphilippines by @the.scubagirl

Closing « Chapter 28 » , the hardest one so far. Saying that i’m ok would be a lie. Which is surely normal for a first birthday without having your mom calling you and leave you singing voice notes on the day that celebrates the first hug we ever had. Crying is still hard, because I can’t realise what happened fully just yet. Everything happened so fast, this year was such a whirlwind of chaos and beauty all mixed into what end up being wrapped up by yet another lap around the sun. I am thankful for my friends, who carry me through the hard times while being so far away from my family. And I will try to make 29, a year that is better, full of gratitude like my mom has taught me, and giving back as much as I can while I find my way in this messy world that we call « life ». I don’t know what is in the books, I don’t want to guess, but I know that I’m today very lucky in my unhappiness. And that’s something that I try to hold and remember every single day.Bring it on 29, because I will do my best to make it a great one. This last year of my 20’s has to be. 🤍✨#29 #birthday #gemini #scubagirl #june1st by @the.scubagirl

While on a turtle dive in Dauin, Philippines with Project Pawikan, I found this little (massive) turtle itching herself on a fishing cage. She couldn’t be more unbothered, and we got to hang out with her for a while before she decided to swim away after itching both sides of her giant shell!!It was super funny then and it still is. The second clip has been accelerated x2 for fun and entertainment purposes, but you can see how cute that behaviour is. Kinda made me wanna scratch an itch too.#turtle #scubadiving #underwatervideo #paditv #turtlesofinstagram by @the.scubagirl

We covered the foggy mask situation, so another way that forbids us to see properly underwater is….. BAD VISIBILITY (yayyy…) In some cases it’s not too much of an issue and I know I am definitely a spoiled diver to say that considering what I have heard about Lakes and Quarries diving, which I haven’t tried so far. It does still does some good to my brain to be underwater with low to zero visibility, sometimes. But if I have the choice and I know prior.. probably will not be joining! What is your take on diving in bad visibility for recreational diving ? Other wide angle photographers that would like to give me your take on the subject? 👀✨#scubadiving #scubagirl #visibility #scuba #paditv by @the.scubagirl

Most people will never see it… Even if they’re underwater. But down there, a coral is quietly pulsing like a heartbeat, breathing with the sea. This is Xenia, a pulse coral. And what you’re seeing right now is it breathing. Those slow, rhythmic movements are how it stays alive underwater. So what is it doing?1. It catches tiny food floating in the water2. It moves oxygen through its body3. It keeps itself clean and functioning4. It reacts to its environment in real timeThis movement is one of the ways soft corals survive in constantly changing reef conditions.Xenia is a soft coral, which means it doesn’t have a hard skeleton. Instead, it moves and pulses to stay stable.Scientists often see it as a sign of a healthy reef, when it thrives, the ecosystem around it is usually doing well too. But in some reefs, Xenia can spread aggressively and outcompete other corals, turning parts of the ecosystem into soft-coral-dominated areas with reduced biodiversity. And yet most people swim right past it without realizing what they’re looking at.Because corals are not rocks. They are living animals.Breathing, reacting, and surviving right in front of us.🎥 @the.scubagirl#xenia #coralreef #scubadiving #marinelife #padi by @the.scubagirl
