Our daughter Talley was 6 weeks old before we found out she had Down syndrome. 🤍

Our quadruplets were born at just 26 weeks, and Talley spent the first 6 weeks of her life needing CPAP to help her breathe.

Because our babies were so premature, some of the physical characteristics of Down syndrome were more difficult to recognize. Genetic testing had not been done, in part because distinguishing the results between four babies was a concern.

We had no idea. But God did all along. His plan unfolded, and He held our hands and walked right beside us.

Looking back at these tiny NICU pictures, I’m reminded of just how much she had already overcome before we even knew this part of her story.

Down syndrome was not something we had anticipated, but Talley has taught us so much about love, strength, and seeing the beauty in a story that unfolds differently than we imagined. 🤍

I get asked all the time if I have triplets.

And I always say, “They’re actually quadruplets.”

Because even though only three of the four are here on earth, they will always be quadruplets.

Mikayla is still my daughter. She is still their sister. And she will always be part of our family’s story.

It makes perfect sense that people would assume they’re triplets, and I don’t even get upset by the question. Sometimes saying “quadruplets” means having an awkward conversation or explaining something people weren’t expecting to hear. But I would rather have the awkward conversation than leave one of my daughters out just because she isn’t here to be seen.

She didn’t stop being my daughter the moment she took her last breath. And they don’t stop being quadruplets because they lost their sister. 🤍

So no, I don’t call them triplets for the sake of making things easier. I say quadruplets. Always.

I cannot wait to all be reunited one day! ❤️

Apparently I’ve reached a new level of motherhood.

One of my 7-year-olds called me “bruh” for the first time today.

I carried you. I birthed you. I feed you. I do your laundry. I literally wipe your tears… and now I’m BRUH?! 😂

Is this just happening in my house, or is “bruh” officially part of the 7-year-old vocabulary now?
