This is me sitting at the foot of a beloved, majestic pine tree at probably my favourite place on Earth—
a hidden river spot nestled in a little gorge, held by beech trees and pine trees.
It is my safe place. In reality but also in imagination—the place I go in trauma therapy when my therapist wants to guide me back to safety.

This summer broke my heart in ways I can't quite grasp yet and struggle to find the words for. While others share highlight posts of a summer of festivals and adventure and ease—my experience was a drastically different one.

Internally & externally.

Countless forest fires with catastrophic scope close to home. A nervous system in flight or freeze, more often than not. A body that was unable to cope with the crazy temperatures. A tornado in our department that wrecked hundreds of homes. A retreat I couldn't join because the place burned down. The realisation that bringing a vegetable garden through the summer is impossible with our water reserves.

This summer it hit me like a wall of bricks: easeful summers are a memory of the past.

There was a moment when we took a walk through the forest, just a couple of weeks ago.
At some point I was stopped in my tracks because the fact that I couldn't hear one single fly, insect or bird was eerie as fuck.
It felt like a scene out of an apocalyptic horror movie, taking place here and now, in what used to be my safe space.

I witness how my relationship with nature is changing. How I avoid going outside because the sight and sensation of drought and collapse is too much to take in.

I don't know what the point of this post is really. I just know that it touched me to see this picture that Ben took of me ... because I see no separation between me, between us and nature.

It's the place I feel most home,
most wild and free, and safe.
And yet, everything feels so fragile.
Like it could be gone in the blink of an eye.

after this summer started with burning forests, a heavy heart, a struggling body & way too much computer work... sweetness arrived. in the form of rain & clouds & newfound friendship & night markets & hours of dancing & unexpected butterflies & a deepening of love that almost lets my heart burst.

to create life & partnership
beyond the conventional paths
feels absolutely wild,
at times utterly insane & borderline overwhelming...
but ultimately,

so
very
right.

birthdays have often felt
tender & tricky since we made the move,
but this one was pure bliss.

making art, merging with nature, skin on warm rock, existing between
the forests & rivers & the sky & the vultures, being so full of love,
being so in love, giggling in the restaurant until nobody else is there

on
a
warm
summer
night.

village youth owning the dance floor.

meeting the sweetest people who plant trees & create magical places
& have the weirdest, cutest tattoos.

thank you for reminding me of beauty & ease & love.

thank you for this softest, sweetest, most needed exhale.

Sometimes you just need to put on a juicy tune while you stand on a mountain, connect with the elements, feel the wind on your skin, the moss on your feet, move your longing & remember/sense that you too, are an elemental, unstoppable force of nature. 🐺🦅🔥 by @the.wild.core

Stop making yourself fit into the neat’n’tiny boxes & watch how life expands accordingly. 🐺💘🐍

Dance is life's rehearsal space.
Here you practice
courage, authenticity, curiosity…

To deem the act of sharing this reel a noble contribution to humanity is truly tragic and stupid. And yet, it actually feels like a sensible piece of content in these floods of AI slop, ridiculous self-optimization routines, and never-ending sales pitches of asinine ideologies.

The four universal healing salves. ¹

As I find myself in a process of rewilding my approach to facilitating somatic coaching, this quote that I’ve seen somewhere probably years ago, popped back into my consciousness & I felt like bringing it back to this feed as well.

If you feel the pull to reclaim your inner witch — that intuitive, wild, untamable part of you — and want to explore how music & movement can wake her back up, I invite you to subscribe to the @pulse.somatics newsletter.

Musings, magic & one epic playlist land in your inbox this Thursday.
