Welcoming musician Kristian Jones as our latest Creative In Residence at The Second.

“I rediscovered how much I enjoyed sitting and writing and exploring musical ideas. It was the perfect space to spend time and create. I didn’t come in with any plans really, just a bunch of instruments and a notebook and pen. I didn’t push to finish any songs, didn’t try to make sure I had a verse, chorus and bridge. I just bounced from idea to idea, instrument to instrument, just moving with whatever felt good in the moment. I ended up having the most creatively productive and life giving few days of my life, which has retaught me how important it is to create as part of our everyday life.”

The Creative Residency brings together a community of creatives and thinkers across a range of disciplines and practices. Each private residency is an invitation to pause, observe and respond to an evolving dialogue between place, practice and people.

A special thank you to Kristian and Amanda for capturing and sharing this beautifully personal record of creative life within the space.

_____Scented scenes from a special day at The Second this week.

Conceived, produced and hosted by @stevecordony in celebration of ‘Fold’ by @georgjensen the space was transformed into a magical edible garden by Benjamin Avery of @colourblind_studio inviting guests to forage, gather and create.

With focaccia making and food by Amanda Cordoney of @thecordonykitchen the day unfolded around the simple pleasure of making, sharing and working with our hands.

A beautiful meeting of nature, food and design, and one of those moments we love most at The Second: seeing the space transformed through the vision and creativity of others.

Last month we welcomed founders and creatives Ema Westheafer and Arielle Cook of Cadeau to celebrate the launch of their latest collection.

“Stepping inside The Second, we were struck by its warmth and depth. Open spaces invited connection, while quiet corners allowed the mind to breathe. It was a space that felt both intimate and expansive, and it was this feeling that sparked our reflection on home. Not just as a place, but as something deeply personal. The spaces we retreat to, the objects we choose to live with, and the people we invite in. There is something inherently intimate about welcoming someone into your home. It is one of the few places where we are entirely ourselves, a sanctuary that holds every version of us.”

The Creative Residency at The Second brings together a community of creatives and thinkers across a range of disciplines and practices. Each private residency is an invitation to pause, observe and respond to an evolving dialogue between place, practice and people.

Our warmest congratulations to Em and Arielle on their launch, and a special thank you for choosing The Second as a second home for Cadeau.

Welcoming artist Amanda Jones as our latest Creative In Residence at The Second.

“My stay at The Second was a cocoon of creative flow. Most days I completely lost track of time or any sense of he outside world. I had no set plan for my time in residence, I brought with me a few of my artworks to see them in a different light and I let the days unfold, moving around the space like a slow waltz. One thing I love to do when I am in residency is visit the local art store and let different colours or mediums find me. I picked up a few mediums, including a colour that caught my eye, ‘nickel yellow’, which I used for prose on a piece from my upcoming collection ‘the Colour of Water.’ This week held so much inspiration and perspective to my practice. The truest magic was to have shared it with my best friend, our two art forms working side by side. A kismet of practice we will never forget.”

Welcoming author, journalist and creative director Jonno Seidler as our latest Creative In Residence at The Second.

“There’s an inherent anxiety that all creatives encounter but rarely speak about when they’re parachuted into a space as beautiful as this. It’s the idea that we must hit go on Making The Thing from the minute we are handed the keys, so as to maximize this opportunity we’ve been given. By contrast, I found my most productive moments were moving between writing locations, or gazing out the big windows and watching the trains. I also went in trying to finish one book but instead came away with a new direction that I found far more exciting. I don’t think that would have happened anywhere else.”

A special thank you to Jonno for coining a new favourite phrase for The Second, “our daydream nation.” We rather love that.
