$A visit to The Blue Pool in Dorset. The Blue Pool was originally a hand-quarried clay pit dating back to the 17th century. The Purbeck ball clay from this quarry was used to make fine ceramic plates, pipes, cups and teapots by companies like Wedgwood. When the clay pit was closed in the 19th century the remaining hole filled with water creating the beautiful pool we see today. The blue colour is caused by light diffracted by minuscule clay particles suspended in the water. It was opened as a tourist attraction in 1935. There’s a nice café there with peacocks strutting around as you eat and some lovely forest trails with fairy doors and more to spot along the way.
