I aim to make $75 guitars play like $300 guitars. The Crap Factory is under a house in Rockland, MA. I prefer salvage/preservation when possible.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Tonight I hosted the homie @safejourney_steph to go through a shitload of guitars and boy did we ever! At one point, when I was showing off my #KramerDMZ2000 and getting really excited about how much I love it, she asked to take a picture of me with it.

I feel honored to have this picture. It captures me, in my element, in my happy place. I am with my favorite guitar, wearing MY T-shirt, next to my 3 greatest and freakiest creations inre: Crap Factory. This picture really captures the vibe of the basement that I have spent and will continue to spend so much time. It's really so great. There really aren't a ton of pics of me being in the basement, so this is extra cool! I am so grateful for so many things, especially the amazing group of friends and creatives that I am surrounded by.

I am truly happy.

I heard this song in Lowe's today and this one part has been rent free in my head since. Looks like I'm gonna have to go home and figure out how to play it until I become discouraged at how many notes there are hahaha

Well, this is a first for me!

I have never had the pleasure of seeing a #BayStateGuitars in real life let alone on my bench!!

This is one of the most beautiful bespoke "pre-war Martin" style guitars I have had the pleasure of gawking at and that says nothing about how well it plays and how lovely it sounds!!

Gosh, as much of an electric guitar guy as I am, it's instruments like this that make me do a double take and kinda reconsider my aversion to acoustics.

Anywho, this thing rips and I'm gonna get to the setup that it is here for, but first I had to take a bunch of pics and gush about it and share them all with you all. taken in Tafty's Home for Wayward Guitars by @the_crap_factory

Welcome to.....

The Hondo UFO!

(from somewhere on the internet)

"The H-797 (Unidentified Fretted Object, or UFO) was introduced in 1984 alongside the H-795 (The Sting) as two new designs copying the work of luthier Dave Petschulat, which were sold as part of the Artist & Designer Series. The UFO was designed to look as if it were cut out of the body of The Sting."

This guitar has 24 frets and is only 19" scale! Check out that one knob! Check out the paint sink around the plywood body! Set neck! The most impressive thing about it all obviously is the case. Holy crap. It's so clean!!

Anywho, I'm almost done with this one and then it will go back home to @rock.land.music where we joked yesterday but it might be the situation: we're gonna have to build a case to display this guitar in its case!

But, yeah no shit, this is the weirdest guitar I've ever had on my bench and now I really wanna find a Death Dagger and an Alien just to have had the three oddest Hondos on my bench!

Today, I have something on my bench that I honestly believe most of you have never even heard of or imagined before.

No it's not a pool cue. There is a guitar in that case.

I just took a bunch of pics and am about to tear into it, but I will post some more in a little bit and see if anyone has a remote clue as to what's hiding in the case (and don't go spoiling it @rock.land.music !!) by @the_crap_factory

Dudes/dudettes, I'm so fucking close with this one.

I have been on this project for an embarrassingly long time, partly to do with weather, mostly it just wasn't ready until it was ready.

And, as it turns out, it still isn't ready. Waiting for some concentric pots to arrive that should get this one across the finish line. Look at how well the body looks in the case!!

Thanks for the patience and the encouragement @rock.land.music, it will all be worth it! by @the_crap_factory

I should have gotten a better "before" pic but today is the day that I undo one of the benches I have used for several years. The plan is to reclaim the space that is blocked off by the bench, which is why I must dismantle the bench. Additionally, there are memories and vibes associated with the actual origins of the wood/bench itself so I need to cleanse myself of all that and also just clear the bandwidth for everything else that is on the horizon. So, yeah, goodbye to the old and hello to lots of new and lots of improved everything!! by @the_crap_factory

That giant drumset on the left is the one I get to use whenever I want....is this real life?? I'm having a great time, everyone.

In the event you are looking for a room with a gigantic sound, touch base with @odd_fellows_recording about seeing the space. The place is a vibe and the room is awesome. Also, Jerry rules. taken in Odd Fellows Recording by @the_crap_factory

So, it's been my vision to have a koi pond for my lone turtle, Bruce, for the better part of the past 6 years. I mean, honestly, I've always wanted a better setup than what I've had for him, and every upgrade feels like "how did he survive before *this*?" but anyways, this has been an/the prevailing idea for a while now. A few weeks ago I jokingly dug out a spot in the greenhouse, stuck our kiddie pool in it, filled it up with water and put a few rocks in it and just kinda let Bruce rip in that. (For reference, I have been letting him wander around the yard, getting his steps in, etc, but have become slightly concerned that he could become food for someone if I lost track of him for long enough.)

Anywho, I had it in my head that a hard molded koi pond was the way to go but after 2 weeks of Bruce clearly having the best time out there, I realized I could probably get some pond liner for less and be able to have closer to the shape or footprint that I really wanted. So, $20 later I had my pond liner and away we go. I got a cheap ish canister filter to circulate the water but otherwise it's just what it is. Yesterday I went to Braintree where a dude sold me these plants from his most incredible koi pond.

It's so cool to see Bruce in a way more natural habitat finally, even if he is going to have to come back inside at some point for the winter. He has been with me for 23 years so I don't want to stress him like that, but I am curious to see how it goes as the winter wears on. The greenhouse will end up with glass panels back in it soon enough, which obviously makes a huge difference once it gets all cold again, but either way, the experiment has begun.

It feels incredible to be accomplishing all of these ideas or visions I have had for years and years. by @the_crap_factory

Well, I just snapped this picture to send to @erich_the_halfbee to just show off our stuff looking all cool together and then I realized I keep not showing off or sharing the story of this guitar I built with @taftysguitars . I will do all of that later, but I realized a part of why I don't post on here is because I keep just sending the text to Erich but then I am neglecting my dozens of friends on here who also actually give a shit about the progress I have been making in my personal AND professional life. So, here is me showing off a little. I will GLADLY do a deep dive into this #TLS001 Bari-tele but for now, check out my sick pedal board that I used for the first time the other night....

(I'm tagging @jmlinstruments in this one because he is the inspiration for the laminated tele neck) by @the_crap_factory
