FOLKS!!!
I held the physical copies of my book today and It made me happier than I have been in a very long time.
I am a published authorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
It still all feels so surreal, I was home alone and so excited, I cried so much and then I called the people I love.
I celebrated by taking a really long shower and eating
Plenty of chocolates.
And then I took some really great pictures.
I am still high on all the joy, This is joy!

🌹🥂

PS
If you pre ordered my book, it will be delivered to you for free any day from now.

❤️

Anddddddddd

MEET YOUR HOST MC: MIDE FASH 🎤🧡

Lagos, Mide Fash is joining us as one of the official Host MCs for Orange Poetry Live Show! Get ready for an evening of poetry, music, and connection through a shared listening experience with silent headsets. 🎧

Ayomide Fasedu, also Mide Fash is a Lagos-born and based spoken word poet, writer, editor, musician, sound engineer, and music producer, with academic training in English and Literature from the University of Lagos. She performs music under the moniker Mide Fash.

Her debut poetry collection, The Ashes Have Their Own Stories, was self-published in August 2022 and received a judges’ Notable Mention at the SPRINGNG Women Author’s Prize. Poems from the collection have since entered international spaces: in 2026, her work was featured in Chorus, the G.A.S. Foundation’s multi-sensory installation in the Main Exhibition of the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Koyo Kouoh.

Her competition record includes the Wordaholics Poetry Slam (2018), Best Performer at Terra Kulture (2018), Best Performer at the Fan Vanilla Campus Tour, Best Essayist at the Saint Titus Initiative (2017), and first runner-up at the Lagos International Poetry Festival (2022). She has been commissioned by Heinrich Böll Stiftung Nigeria and Talking Objects Lab for a live spoken word performance on colonialism and restitution, served as featured poet, singer, and soundtrack composer on Of Broken Bodies; a six-part HBS-sponsored spoken word film series on gender-based violence ; and in March 2026 performed at the ProvidusBank World Poetry Day Café alongside Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka..

As Mide Fash, she is wildly experimental, and she channels her inimitable creative richness across every genre from Afro-Soul, Neo-Soul, Afro EDM, Alternative R&B, and House Music. She featured on Blackmagic’s Magic Republic (The Invitation) and has released three singles: Gold and Fire (2024), Manipulator (2024), and Bansoro (2025). taken in Lagos, Nigeria by @the_midefash

@ife69 took this mesmerizing picture of my back @dnt.thursday by @wondy.body

I recently got my B.A in English from the university of Lagos and for my thesis, I did the first Multiimodal Discourse analysis of Performance Strategies by selected Nigerian Spokenword Poets

The Nigerian literary academy has done almost nothing with spoken word poetry.. with published written poetry, you see journal articles, doctoral dissertations, university courses, critical symposia, you see careers built on sustained engagement with their work and I am not trying to make a complaint against that tradition of academic scholarship, my problem is that a lot of this attention excludes Spokenword poets .
A lot of work goes into this craft and then the festivals end, the stage is packed away and nothing is written down for academia, a lot of our achievements go undocumented in the institutions. And I believe Spokenword should be in academic curricula.
The work that exists is scattered and rarely attends to what actually happens when a poet takes a stage and opens their mouth.
This brings me to our second problem.
Even the small amount of academic scholarship that touches on Nigerian spoken word tends to treat the text of our poems as its primary object; it is usually mostly transcribing the words, analyzing the themes and the language of the piece and leaving the performance itself unexamined…But for spoken word poetry, the performance is not an addition to the poem. the performance is not an addition to the poem, e Jorr, the performance is the poem.

My study is on the work of some of my favourite storytellers: Deborah Johnson, Wana Udobang, and Efe Paul Azino.
I explore how linguistic and non-linguistic semiotic resources interact in the construction of meaning. Drawing on the Social Semiotic Theory of Multimodality developed by Kress and van Leeuwen (1996, 2001)
The study analyses the deployment of language, voice, gesture, facial expression, body movement, and the use of space during performance. My goal is to do my part in contributing to a deeper understanding of multimodal mean by @the_midefash

I loved sharing this at @micandmind

I am usually not the type of poet to translate my Yoruba pieces to English because the language just doesn’t capture the depth of the things I actually mean in Yoruba. ..However, due to popular demand…

“I have spoken with the water, I have received my redemption
 The water had delivered me
I have broken my chains.
I have danced with fire/ I have burned in fire
I have danced, I have burned, I have danced, I have burned.
And the fire has made me wise.

I have spoken with my mothers. I have become something that cannot be tested, or trifled with. They have made me untouchable.

They say: The Child of Asabi cannot be erased .
I cannot fade like the stubborn lumps of elubo
I cannot disappear into time.

My mothers have made of me; An alchemist that transmutes words into wealth.
I am the child who wraps splendor around her like clothes
They stand solidly behind me.
They stand solidly behind me.
I have become the tree
It is I who is the very Araba.
I! A whole entire child!

I am today
I am tomorrow
Child of Great crown
The daughter of the daughter of Oginikara

I have become the salt of the earth; See how sweet I am
See how I am flying with own wings
See how I am shining like the sun
See how sweet I look.
Wo bi mo shey dun.
