The confliction. I’m happy. I’m sad. I’m happy to have had the privilege to follow him for so long. I’m sad that it’s over. I’m happy I got him. I’m sad he’s dead. I feel full but empty at the same time. I’ve always hoped I’d be remembered for truly loving these animals we hunt, but I may have let this one get too close to me. I don’t expect everyone to understand and that’s ok. I know I’m different in ways about whitetails. But geez he meant a lot to me. by @the_roy

Turkey season so far. Different states, different people, different camo patterns, same love for experiencing God’s creation.

Thicker than oatmeal. This ole boy was big. Spot and stalked him through the milo tailing him for about 800 yards before finally getting a shot. Hung back about 100 yards from him the whole time, waiting for the right moment. Been tracking this buck for the last couple of weeks since I saw him in my spotter on day 2 of scouting. Left briefly to chase elk, then straight back to stay on him. He was living somewhere else and coming to a permission piece I’ve had for a while, maybe once or twice a week.

The Midwest has become my happy place. I love hunting from the ground in wide open places. It’s where I feel most free. Grateful to experience scenery like this. This hunt was definitely one for the books for me. Big gamble with a long stalk that ended in our favor. Been a heck of a September experiencing both the highs and lows of hunting. This one was good for the soul. Thank you for the chase old friend. by @the_roy

Started off this year with one of the most brutal bow hunting moments of my life on a giant buck. Pulled off a perfect spot and stalk following this buck’s trail after seeing him come out of the river bottom. Crept to the field edge and got to 50. A range I am extremely confident in. He gave us a broadside shot after several minutes of being patient. The combo of my arrow deflecting slightly right off a weed I didn’t see and him ducking 3-4 inches, put it in textbook high shoulder no mans. Knew immediately it was likely not lethal. Let him lay over night and bumped him the next day alive and well.

My reason in posting this is that if we are going to show y’all the highs, we must show you the lows. Social media is deceiving these days mostly only seeing what people want you to see. I think it’s important to share real experiences that people can relate to, learn from, and be encouraged by.

There’s no worse feeling as a hunter and sometimes no matter how much you prep and prepare, things can still go south. I’ve been here before and here’s my advice to anyone who has experienced a heart break like this hunting. Keep your head up. You will feel like you want to quit, but as my good buddy @jaymaxwell46ten told me years ago, “you can’t quit, you love this too much.” He was right. This is my turn to pass that message along. When y’all experience a heartbreak like this, in hunting or in life, don’t quit, keep going, you never know how it all plays out in the end if you don’t keep going. The story with this one is not over yet… by @the_roy

The greatest whitetail man has ever known to have walked planet earth. I had the privilege to put my hands on, and tell the story of, “The General”, whose sheds were recently purchased for $1,000,000 (crazy, right?). These sheds were found by Ben Barnhart in Nebraska in 1959 while looking for a lost calf. Not knowing what he had, they sat at his house for nearly 40 years before being discovered by a local outfitter. The sheds would have undoubtedly been the typical world record. We also got to see “The Minnesota Monarch”, whose sheds were found in 1989. They are the largest nontypical sheds ever known to exist, scoring 334” with an estimated spread of 23 inches. Having them both in the same room, along with lots of other legendary bucks from decades ago, felt historic.

There’s lots of controversy in recent history surrounding The General and some points being shaved off. We are excited to share those details and the full story of him.

I will never take for granted having the opportunity to experience something like this. As someone who loves whitetails, I love the stories and history the most. It is still hard to believe I got to see, in person, some of the bucks I grew up reading about in magazines as a kid.

Thank you to @cody_idol , @theantlercollector and Josh Duncan for making this happen and sharing these icons of whitetail history with us, and through our video, to you guys.

Last thing, the end photo is my shed I found in 2024 compared to The General. Puts into perspective how crazy big the one I found is too. by @the_roy

Probably the biggest buck I’ve ever pursued from years ago. Did some door knocking and got a spot but after meeting several hunters close by, decided to leave it alone to them. Became friends with those guys and kept up with their hunt for him. They never got him but another hunter a couple miles away did. How big do y’all think this buck was? Suburban giant no doubt.
