Nervous system regulation is not a luxury.

Three things account for most of what a $2,600 a night retreat is actually selling you: quiet, nature, and craft. All three have versions available at home, and two of them are free.

Quiet. The noise you’ve stopped noticing is still being processed. It affects sleep and cardiovascular function whether or not you register the sound. Start with soft surfaces - rugs, curtains, upholstery. (WHO Environmental Noise Guidelines, 2018)

Nature. Maximize daylight. Switch to lamps after dark. Add something green. Surgical patients with a window view of trees went home sooner and on weaker pain medication than matched patients facing a brick wall (Ulrich, Science, 1984)

Craft. One real thing, made by someone, allowed to age. Touch matters here - uncoated and oil-finished wood produced a measurably calmer response than urethane and mirror finishes (Chiba University, 2017)

They didn’t invent any of this. They packaged it.

Frank Lloyd Wright didn’t design Fallingwater around a view of the waterfall.

He designed it around the experience of living with it.

Let’s talk about what that means 👩‍💻🤓🏡🌊

Born between August 30th and September 12th? In western astrology you’re a Virgo. In Asterian astrology, you’re Bacchus, a stretch that belongs to Leo.

God of wine and good times. But one of his oldest cult titles is Lysios: the Loosener.

A note on the interiors: these are examples of qualities, not a Bacchus aesthetic. Your chart is more than a single placement.

So, who here is a Bacchus sun? Or has it dominant in their chart. I’d love to know if this resonates. by @thealignedinterior

What makes a place feel like community?

Rooftop lounge. Resident lounge. Coworking space.

This is what a lot of multiresidential housing is now marketing as community.

So in this one I went looking - a bit of history, some thinking about what community is, and a few examples of cohousing 😊🏠

What do you think?

What assumptions have you inherited about what you’re allowed to need?

A dining room. A living room. A bedroom for every child. Most of us never chose any of it.

In 1960, married parents with kids were about 44% of American households. Today they’re around 18%. And we’re still building the same plan.

So, what actually matters to you? And is it anywhere in your floor plan?

August 16–29 belongs to Persephone.

In Western astrology, these dates fall across Leo and Virgo. In Asterian astrology, this stretch belongs to Persephone, the goddess of spring, fertility, vegetation and grain, and queen of the underworld.

She holds power in both worlds.

Persephone energy is the ability to move through darkness and light, growth and dormancy, descent and return.

And transformation happens when you’re willing to move through both.

Next week: what Persephone energy looks like in home design 🏡👩‍💻

Do you have dominant Persephone energy in your chart? If so, tell me which part landed ✨ by @thealignedinterior

You are in relationship with your home.

We have a whole language for what happens between people - mutual interests, needs, patterns, attachment. We don’t tend to think about our environment the same way, and most of us were never taught the language for it.

But the exchange is happening. Your space communicates through light, sound, layout, materials, scale, etc. You communicate back through how you use it, what you avoid, what you change, what you prioritize.

So when I start a project, that’s what I’m reading.

If you work from home eight hours a day and health matters to you, but your desk sits in a corner with an uncomfortable chair and no natural light there is a misalignment. Your environment is saying something different from what you say matters.

That’s the Aligned Interior Method: understanding and intentionally shaping the relationship between you and your environment. Depending on what matters most, we go deeper through environmental psychology, neuroaesthetics, nervous system design, healthy building or your astrological chart even.

Your home isn’t a backdrop to your life. It’s participating in it.

We’re in sidereal Cancer season, Hydra specifically, August 2nd - 15th.

The largest constellation in the sky. A water serpent who couldn’t be beaten by force. Ruled by Mercury, Hydra is one of the signs that can reach kundalini most readily. High qualities: quick thinker, instinctive and magnetic. Low qualities: circling thoughts, indecision, and ultimately self-doubt.

The way through isn’t more thinking. It’s movement, and a space that supports it.

Who has dominant Hydra energy - sun, moon or rising maybe? Love to know if this lands 😊 by @thealignedinterior

Researchers at Chiba University had people rest a palm on white oak in five finishes (raw, oil, glass, urethane, mirror) and measured brain activity and heart rate.

Raw calmed people the most, mirror the least. The middle three weren’t cleanly ranked; the pattern is that the more sealed the surface, the less the body responded.

Raw won in the lab, but raw isn’t a practical finish for most tabletops. Oil is though and it looks beautiful! Oil sinks into the wood instead of sitting on top, so it still protects and your hand still touches wood.

Same wood in all five photos. Your eyes may not be able to tell them apart but your hand can 😊

Ikei, Song & Miyazaki, 2017. 18 participants; small study, consistent with a larger body of work from the same lab. by @thealignedinterior

Some spaces help calm your body. Others leave you feeling tense, distracted, or overstimulated.
That’s partly because your body and nervous system are responding to your environment.

Your home is constantly contributing to how safe, focused, and regulated you feel every day…
and small design shifts can make a meaningful difference.

On February 26th (4:30–6pm PT), I’m hosting a live online workshop on how to design your space to support calm, focus, regulation, and better sleep. Using science-backed principles from environmental psychology, neuroaesthetics, circadian and nervous system research.

We’ll explore how light, layout, sensory input, nature, and rhythm impact how you feel and you’ll leave with simple, actionable changes you can apply immediately.

If you’ve been feeling overstimulated or want your home to feel more grounding and supportive, this is for you. It is also ideal for professionals who want to use space as a tool to support relaxation, safety and nervous system regulation.

A mood board inspired by earth tones and textures. Whenever I create mood boards, I let what lights me up lead, following resonance, beauty and spark.

The deep fig hues and grounded earth textures guided this one.
