From the VP Seat: wanting the title is the beginning. Get specific about the responsibility you want to own. The decisions. The business results. The leaders you’ll develop. The tradeoffs you’ll be accountable for. These five areas can help you prepare for that next conversation and identify where you need more experience, exposure, or support. Your organization owes you clear expectations and a fair path forward, too. Which of the five are you working on? Save this for your next career conversation. If you follow me or anyone in the circle of working mom content creators, you know that a few of us met in NYC last week for our annual “Creator Lab” where we walk through our accounts, share best practices, and give each other a 360 on the content we create. A few years ago, @byjessalayne invited me to the opening of Nespresso in Seattle at U Village and we talked about this growing niche of creators called “working moms.” There weren’t many of us out there and she wondered out loud if we could all get together. Not knowing that I’m the queen of making a really good idea come to life, I partnered with her to make it happen. And it did. And then we made it happen again this year. Life is so much better when women support women. There’s plenty of room at the table for all of us and I believe that when one of us wins, we all win. People ask me how to get a group like this together — both with The Cabro and groups like my Moms and Margs group with my kid’s preschool. And I say — you just ask. You take your idea and you put it out there and you see if people want to do it. That’s what Jess did with me and we created a pretty awesome group of women cheering each other on two cohorts in a row. I highly recommend creating your own group of personal directors and seeing what happens when you bring together women who are confident, driven, kind, and willing to support each other. It’s a beautiful thing. And who knows, you might come back with an extra set of earring holes, which we’ve named the new friendship bracelets for moms. 😊 I want to give @arlohotels a huge shoutout for partnering with us again this year. They have been so generous with their room rates and conference rooms two years in a row. Now when I go to NYC, I love having this as a go to hotel. The rooms are trendy, the showers are strong, the drinks are tasty, the food is delicious and the hospitality is genuine. And my favorite perk is that they have a coffee shop in the lobby. They graciously offered a discount to our followers: CREATOR40 for 40% off. Thank you Arlo for partnering with us again! Still ambitious. And even more inspired. I left this weekend incredibly grateful for what happens when ambitious women who also happen to be mothers get in a room together. We talked careers, motherhood, personal brands, big ideas, bigger goals, and the very real parts of building something of your own. But my biggest takeaway wasn’t about content. It was about possibility and community. There’s something powerful about being around women who are further ahead, their success expands your own sense of what’s possible. And being surrounded by women who are still dreaming, building, advancing, and figuring it out reminded me exactly why I’m building AncHER. Motherhood didn’t end our ambition. We’re all still very ambitious. I’m coming home inspired, clear, and ready to show up differently. by @theancherco
I’m Khiara. I’m raising a little boy, healthcare VP, and building AncHER around an idea I can’t stop thinking about. Motherhood changes us as leaders in ways we rarely talk about. I’m here to talk about that and what it means to still be ambitious after becoming a mom. This is me through their eyes. We spend so much time thinking about how we want to be perceived especially when we’re building a personal brand that it’s easy to forget to ask the people around us what they already see. So this weekend, we did. And hearing how these women experience me was equal parts affirming and surprising. It reminded me that sometimes other people recognize your strengths before you’ve fully learned to own them yourself. The right community doesn’t just support where you’re going. They help you see who you’re becoming. I’m extremely grateful for women who see me, challenge me, and make the possibilities feel bigger. Now I encourage you to do the same: Text a woman today and tell her the thing you see in her that she might not see in herself yet. ——————————— If you only knew what it took to get our cover photos at the @arlohotels lobby photobooth 😂 If you need a hotel in Midtown NYC, consider Arlo Midtown! I’ve spent more than a decade building my career as a healthcare executive without talking about it much publicly. I didn’t start building a personal brand when I started showing up online. I did the work to establish myself in my career. The reputation followed. Now I’m learning how to make that reputation and the point of view I’ve developed over the years travel beyond the rooms I’m already in. Which is why this conversation feels especially timely. This week, I’m heading to NYC for Built, Not Branded, hosted by @_thecabro and @mmlafleur, to talk about personal brand, career, and what it looks like to build something of your own while continuing to grow in an executive career you love. For me, that journey has also included motherhood and becoming intentional about what I’ve wanted my ambition to build. I’m excited to share the stage with an incredible group of women and bring my perspective as someone who is still very much figuring out what it looks like to let all of these parts of who I am coexist and be visible. One of the biggest gaps I see with high-achieving women is…. They are successful but not financially clear. They’re earning well but don’t know what they actually need. They’re growing in their careers but don’t know what their next level should pay. They’re capable of more but don’t have the clarity to ask for it. And that lack of clarity shows up everywhere. In hesitation. In under-negotiation. In staying longer than they should. In accepting less than they’ve earned. Because here’s the truth: Financial awareness is not just a personal skill. It’s a leadership skill. Executives make decisions based on numbers every day. If you’re disconnected from your own you will feel it in your confidence, your positioning, and your earning power. Inside AncHER, we don’t just talk about leadership. We connect it to financial agency. Because when women understand their numbers, they stop negotiating from emotion and start leading from clarity. 👇🏾 If you still need help figuring out your numbers happy to chat DM me “LEADERSHIP”. #FinancialConfidence #WomenInLeadership #ExecutiveMoms #womenandmoney #ancherco by @theancherco
Let’s be honest. You cannot say you want executive leadership…and still feel uncomfortable talking about money. Because at higher levels, leadership is not just about people. It’s about: 💰how money moves 💰how resources are allocated 💰what gets funded 💰what gets cut 💰what gets prioritized And if you avoid your own financial reality? You will hesitate in rooms that require financial decisions. You will second-guess your asks. You will under-negotiate your value. You will play small when it matters most. This is where a lot of high-achieving women get stuck. Because they were never taught to see money as leverage. Money is not just personal. It’s positional. It shapes: 💎 how you show up 💎what you ask for 💎what you accept 💎what you walk away from You don’t become confident with money after you reach leadership. You build it on the way there. 👇🏾 Be honest, how comfortable are you with money? #Workingmoms #ExecutiveMoms #FinancialPower #ancherco #womenandmoney by @theancherco
One of the biggest reasons women under-earn is simple: They don’t know their number. Not a guess. Not a range. A real, calculated number based on: ✅lifestyle ✅goals ✅responsibilities ✅future plans When you don’t know your number, every offer feels “good enough.” When you do know your number, every decision becomes strategic. 👇🏾 Do you know your number or are you still guessing? by @theancherco
One of the best things I did for my career had nothing to do with working harder. It was getting comfortable talking about money. Because for a long time, I did what so many women do: I worked. I delivered. I proved myself. And assumed the compensation would automatically follow. Unfortunately, it doesn’t. At some point, I realized: If I want to feel financially secure and well compensated, I need to be just as comfortable discussing money as I am delivering results. So I changed a few things: 💰I started having real conversations about money with people I trust 💰I got clear on what I should actually be earning 💰I asked for raises — directly, not indirectly, hope is not a strategy ladies 💰I stopped treating money like something uncomfortable or off-limits And then everything shifted for me. Because here’s the truth: A lot of women are not under-earning because they lack value. They’re under-earning because they’ve been taught not to ask. Not to push. Not to negotiate. Not to make it “about money.” But leadership requires financial clarity. And financial clarity requires conversation. It’s not complicated. It’s uncomfortable. And that’s where most women stop. 👇🏾 Be real, are you talking about money with the people in your life? Let me know below or in the DMs #Workingmom #FinancialConfidence #ExecutiveMoms #CareerGrowth #ancherco by @theancherco

When I became a mother, I made a decision early I was not going to lose myself in the process Not because motherhood isn’t important but because losing myself wouldn’t benefit me or my child And I think more women need to hear that Because the default expectation is: 🟣sacrifice everything 🟣figure it out alone 🟣prove you can “do it all” 🟣then ask for help when you’re already overwhelmed I chose something different I built support on purpose Before I needed it That looked like: ✔️being honest about what I could and couldn’t carry ✔️investing in childcare, creating the village early ✔️getting clear on my financial priorities ✔️setting boundaries with my time early ✔️✔️protecting the parts of me that existed before motherhood (LOUDER FOR THE MAMAS IN THE BACK! 🗣️🗣️🗣️) Because here’s what I know: Burnout is not a badge of honor Struggle is not a requirement And losing yourself is not a rite of passage into motherhood Support is not weakness It’s strategy It’s leadership And it’s one of the most important decisions you can make as a mother building a life, a career, and a future 👇🏾 What support do you know you need right now but haven’t claimed yet? #WorkingMom #AmbitiousMothers #WomenInLeadership #MotherhoodAndCareer #ancherco by @theancherco
The weather is warming up and I am HERE FOR IT! But with the season change life tends to get fuller More activities More social events More family commitments And for mothers, especially ambitious ones it becomes very easy to shift all of your energy outward But here’s what I’ve learned as both an executive and a mother: Ambition requires energy Not just time Energy The ability to think clearly Make decisions Lead others Stay connected to your long-term vision And that doesn’t happen when you’re running on empty Filling your own cup isn’t just about self-care trends It’s about protecting the energy required to pursue the life you’re building Because when ambitious mothers are resourced… Everyone benefits🙌🏾 💎Your family 💎Your career 💎Your leadership So as life gets busier this season, remember: Protect your energy like the leader you are For me personally, I’m going to try and get a walk in every day it’s not raining. Walking improves my mental capacity so much. What fills your cup up Mama? Follow @theancherco for more conversations about ambition, leadership, and motherhood. by @theancherco
