Sometimes a little creativity changes everything ❤️

Drs. Lauren and Daniel Anthony (@theanthonyvets) shared with Dodo producer @tarang_thedodo how Squid was born with a deformity — and how their inventive solution helped him find his footing and become part of the family 🥰

$Using an open, moistened Ziploc bag to prevent the tree frog from jumping and to minimize exposure to environmental contaminants, we obtained radiographs with a dental X-ray unit to screen for metabolic bone disease (MBD). MBD in amphibians is most commonly associated with chronic hypocalcemia secondary to improper calcium-to-phosphorus ratios, inadequate dietary supplementation, and/or insufficient UVB exposure, resulting in impaired vitamin D₃ synthesis. Radiographic findings may include generalized osteopenia, cortical thinning, pathologic fractures, spinal deformities, and mandibular softening. Early recognition is critical, as progression can lead to irreversible skeletal deformities and decreased mobility. #veterinarianlife #vetmed #vetmedicine #vetmedlife #vetstudent by @theanthonyvets$

Sadie is so thankful for the busy bones she has received via the wishlist! Look at how good her skin looks. by @theanthonyvets

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to speak at Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and VBMA about Owning Your Future: Starting a Veterinary Practice.

I’m passionate about empowering veterinarians to pursue practice ownership and helping the next generation build practices that reflect their vision and values. Thank you to Oklahoma State CVM and VBMA for the invitation and to everyone who joined us!

Lauren and I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve our community through Atlas Pet Vets. When we built our hospital, our vision was to be different: to provide advanced medical care and compassionate service to all animals, including those who have been forgotten, neglected, or abused.

Through the Atlas Pet Vets Medical Rescue Fund, our hospital’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit arm, we are able to extend that mission to animals who desperately need a second chance.

This sweet dog was seized from severe neglect and presented with one of the worst cases of mange we have ever seen. Her first therapeutic bath alone took over an hour just to remove the layers of crusting. Her road to recovery will take time, but she deserves that chance.

Cases like this remind us why we chose this profession and why we built Atlas the way we did. The years of hard work, long days, and sacrifices are worth it when we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of animals who cannot speak for themselves.

When you have been given the gifts and opportunity to serve, you give back. This is why we do what we do.

The World’s Smallest X-Rays

Custom orthotics can provide a limb-preserving alternative for dogs with chronic neurologic deficits, limb deformities, orthopedic abnormalities, or secondary pressure injuries. Xena has a suspected brachial plexus injury dating back four years, leaving her thoracic limb in a persistently flexed position and resulting in a large carpal callus. Arthrodesis was considered but was less favorable given the chronicity of the fixed deformity, while amputation was not ideal due to concurrent arthritis affecting her other limbs.

Through a collaborative partnership, a custom orthotic was developed to improve limb positioning and function, redistribute pressure, and reduce further soft tissue injury. This case highlights the potential role of custom orthoses in selected patients when conventional surgical options have limitations. Careful assessment of limb function, joint range of motion, skin integrity, and patient tolerance, along with regular orthotic adjustments and monitoring, is essential to optimize outcomes.

Xena currently resides at Colony Animal Shelter, where this partnership offers an opportunity to improve her comfort and quality of life. She is available for adoption and is the sweetest girl!

Severe soft palate elongation and thickening are common components of brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS) in English and French Bulldogs. Excess soft palate tissue can obstruct airflow at the level of the oropharynx, contributing to stertor, stridor, increased respiratory effort, exercise intolerance, and increased risk of heat stress. A staphylectomy (soft palate resection) surgically removes the redundant portion of the soft palate to improve airflow and reduce upper airway resistance. Staphylectomy is commonly performed alongside other corrective procedures, such as nares or vestibular widening, depending on the individual patient’s anatomic abnormalities.

Juvenile Cellulitis (Puppy Strangles)

Juvenile cellulitis is an uncommon, presumed immune-mediated disease that most often affects puppies between 1–4 months of age. Clinical signs include facial edema, particularly around the muzzle and periocular region, pustules, crusting, alopecia, otitis externa, and mandibular lymphadenomegaly. Fine-needle aspirates of affected lymph nodes commonly reveal pyogranulomatous inflammation.

Treatment centers on immunosuppressive glucocorticoids, typically prednisone at 1–2 mg/kg/day, with gradual tapering once clinical remission is achieved. Secondary bacterial infections may warrant systemic antibiotics and gentle antiseptic skin care. Early recognition and appropriate treatment generally carry an excellent prognosis, with most patients achieving remission within 1–2 months. Scarring alopecia may persist in severely affected areas.

Side Note: Generalized juvenile demodicosis can mimic this presentation. Consider appropriate diagnostic testing and maintain labeled isoxazoline therapy when indicated.

Happy four year wedding anniversary to the love of my life, my best friend, my business partner, my partner in crime, and my everything in between.

It has been an incredible journey sharing this life with you, and I’m so excited for everything that is still to come. I have been so proud as your husband to watch you grow both as a person and as a veterinarian, while continuing to pursue the passions that mean so much to you.

From winning jumping classes with Brownie and placing in the Hunter classes with Ghost, to starting an incredible medical rescue fund where you have become these animals’ last hope, to all of the reptile, fish, avian, and bulldog surgeries you have taken on, you continue to make a difference every single day.

You make a difference in my world, our hospital, and our community. I’m incredibly proud of the person, veterinarian, equestrian, and partner you are.

I’m looking forward to continuing to be your biggest fan and your partner through all of life’s adventures. Here’s to another amazing year together and a lifetime more to come. I love you. by @theanthonyvets
