HARVEST 2026 AT RAUMLAND

Six harvests in, and yet it never feels routine. Being part of harvest at Raumland – Germany’s sparkling-wine pioneers and, for me, its finest producer - remains one of the true highlights of my year.

WHAT A COLLECTION.

I tasted through the 2025s from @kuehlingandbattenfeld a few days ago and, for me, this is one of the great collections of the vintage. The wines from the Zellertal in particular are remarkable: deep and dense, yet full of energy, with enormous tension, salinity and precision. There is a sense of substance here that I rarely find in young dry Riesling without the wines ever becoming heavy.

And then there is Frauenberg.

I honestly struggled to put this wine into words. The nose is incredibly dense and concentrated, almost without fruit: powdered rock, pale herbs, white flowers. Deep, firm and very noble. On the palate, a little ripe apple appears, but again it is really the rock and salt that define the wine. Immensely juicy, tightly woven and compact, with a grip that builds and builds towards an almost endless saline finish.

One of those rare moments when you put the glass down for a second and simply smile.
