We have always known that we wanted to merge our art with activism.

We began by creating sculptures that could become coral reefs—catalysts for marine protection, coral farming and mangrove restoration. Inspired by the cultural identity of each place, these works could amplify awareness while becoming ecotourism sites that generate revenue for local conservation.

We had the opportunity to build a sculpture for Burning Man - which had been a transformative place for us over the years —Kyle’s first year was 2009, and mine was 2012. It showed us that, even for a week: radical acceptance, creative expression and community is possible. We carried those values back into our lives.

We realized that this, too, is activism.

Art can change people. It can open minds and hearts, create revelations, unlock possibilitities. It can change culture, which can change society.

The process of making large-scale art is transformative for us. From conception to completion, it demands perseverance, patience and trust. It pushes us beyond what we thought was possible and it is such a unique medium to communicate messages and evoke emotions.

Maybe activism isn’t only about changing the world around us.

Maybe it’s also about changing what people believe is possible within themselves.

Our team achieved what felt like the impossible: creating this piece in 4 months with 3/4 of our team trained on welding and metal bending for the first time.

This is the kind of art we are committed to making.

Watching Ceiba fall in love with big trees 🌲

At two years old, the world is full of magic. Every towering tree, tiny creature, fallen leaf, and patch of dirt.

One of the greatest gifts we hope to give her is a deep connection to the natural world. To grow up feeling that she belongs to the Earth, that she is part of something much bigger than herself.

To feel the earth beneath their feet, climb among the roots, listen to the birds, and experience the wonder of being alive.

Our hope is that this love will grow with her, inspiring her to care for this beautiful Earth and all the beings we share it with.

Our art begins here 🌎

People often see the sculptures we create but rarely the moments that give birth to them and that shape who we are.

Our life moves in cycles. And in the quiet moments between projects, we return to nature. To slow down, reconnect and make space for inspiration to emerge.

Nature has always been our greatest teacher and the driving force behind our art. It was our love for this Earth and crazy wild experiences with our natural world that inspired us, 14 years ago to dedicate our creativity to something greater than ourselves.

Today, we create art to inspire connection, transformation and action towards a more regenerative future.

We hope to pass that same love and wonder on to our children and that we may collectively ensure our children inherit a beautiful, safe and abundant Earth as we have.

Large scale art takes patience. You can’t skip steps. You need to show up everyday, put in the time and make steady progress.

It takes practice. Every project we do, and every hour we put into the work - we learn new things, strengthen our skill sets and build confidence in our knowledge base of how to do things. Sometimes, you’re just figuring it out in the moment and that is a practice too.

It takes perseverance - it’s not easy. It’s hard on the body. The environment is loud and sometimes uncomfortable. Sometimes the projects are so big it’s overwhelming. Sometimes challenges arise personally, professionally, logistically. And we just have to push through - be patient, trust in our practice and persevere.

Mundara in the making!

This is a post of shoutouts cause these big projects are only possible by the amazing people who support our crazy dreams!

@kyledoodleblock who led this whole process from beginning to end, who dreams big, communicates gracefully and somehow knows what to do and how to manage all of the different people and aspects of the project.

@oliver.allaux who supported with 3d modeling, came in during crunch time to support on build and was on playa with us with @sky.so.young

@sterlingroth3d turned the 3d scan into cut files 🙏🏽 and @3dscanla did the scanning

@ellariyab our live model who we 3d scanned and worked with us to refine our original pose designs and joined for build & breakdown with @shervin

Our life as artists ebbs and flows between creation mode and the space inbetween…

We have been living around the world together the last 14 years making art and launching projects. From San Diego where we met to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, India to New York, the Dominican Republic, LA, Nebraska, and Austin.

We ebb between working on a project and being deep in it, and the space inbetween, where we are exploring next projects, resting, and seeking inspiration.

Most of our deepest inspiration and connection has come from spending time in nature.

And this inbetween moment we are embarking on a month long trip in an RV with our baby ceiba and our two dogs. Coming back to some of the simple things in life, our presence, sunsets, sunrises, bonfires, beaches, mountains, rivers, lakes….

From these quiet places in nature, is where magic emerges for us.

First stop was right in our backyard in LA - camping in Leo Carrillo, Malibu for the night.

MUNDARA II _________________________________________________________ « Mundara is a large figurative piece in a full backbend, her arm and leg outstretched creates a rainbow.
Her backbend creates an arc between earth and sky, turning the human body into a bridge, a gateway, a horizon. The rainbow arc suggests transcendence, but also connection: the joining of opposites - masculine and feminine, human and nature, matter and spirit.
Visitors can ascend, from the earth rising into her head - a movement from survival into awareness, from the material world into higher consciousness. From her head they can ascend to her heart - ascending into infinite love. The sculpture becomes more than an object to observe; it becomes a journey.
Mundi means World and Dara means the sustainer.
