βœ¨οΈπŸ‘‘ Make a Laufey-inspired Felt Crown With Me πŸ‘‘βœ¨οΈ

Thank you to @whittierpubliclibrary for hosting this Laufey-themed crafting day and for the free poster πŸ₯Ή

Laufey is one of my favorite artists of the current generation, so naturally I attended the library's craft day to make felt crowns as an homage to her. Always grateful for libraries who organize these fun and free events for the community. I had so much fun making this crown that I'll definitely be wearing to her next tour πŸ’•πŸ‡

πŸ“–πŸŽž Sense & Sensibility Movie Pre-screening πŸŽžπŸ“–

I had such an incredible time watching the new adaptation of Jane Austen's debut novel. It had the same endearing charm that's reminiscent of the Pride & Prejudice (2005) adaptation, and I loved the tender romances and yearning. I definitely came out of that theatre in the mood for more Regency Era love stories and romances πŸ’•

I hope you all choose to watch it when it comes out in theatres this week!

πŸŒΈπŸ’  Books to Read Based on Your Avatar Element πŸ’ πŸŒΈ

I am beyond excited that the new Avatar series comes out today. I grew up alongside this world since Avatar: The Last Airbender came out when I was a kid, and The Legend of Korra came out when I was in high school. It's amazing how much this franchise continues to thrive even after over 20 years, and now I have Seven Havens to look forward to as an adult.

QOTD πŸ’: Which of these four elements do you have an affinity with the most?

Water 🌊: The element of change, adaptability, and empathy

Featured Books:
~ The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez
~ Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan
~ In the Veins of the Drowning by Kalie Cassidy

Earth πŸͺ¨: The element of perseverance, fortitude, and patience

Featured Books:
~ The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
~ This Monster of Mine by Shalini Abeysekara
~ The Wrath & the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh

Fire πŸ”₯: The element of passion, energy, and power

Featured Books:
~ An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
~ Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao
~ The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

Air πŸ’¨: The element of freedom, tranquility, and spirituality

🏚🌊 Our Cut of Salt Book Event 🌊🏚

I think gothic horror books about homelands marred by colonization or occupation, and the scars they leave everywhere, may just be my new favorite literary niche (totally has nothing to do with me being from a country with a long history of colonization or anything πŸ₯²). One book I read earlier this year (That Which Feeds Us by Keala Kendall) explores this very concept, and now I can read another book that touches on this subject with Our Cut of Salt by Deena Helm. A horror story centering around three Palestinian women across three different generations, and the house that was their family’s home just feels like a timely read in this current climate, and I have high hopes that this will be a thought provoking and emotionally evocative read.

QOTD πŸ’: Would you live in a house you've inherited if you knew it was haunted? Why or why not?

βœ¨οΈπŸŒ• Autumn Krause Book Signing Event πŸŒ•βœ¨οΈ

I think it was pure luck that I managed to grab the last copy of The Gods Will Sing Our Song at Barnes & Noble during Autumn Krause's signing event a few weeks ago. The weather and parking were such a hassle, but I was fortunate enough to make it to the signing with only one copy left on the table πŸ₯Ή

Also super glad I got to say hello to Autumn (who is always so wonderful and lovely to speak to!) while I was dressed as Violet Aratani from this book. Really just an amazingly sweet author event πŸ’•

QOTD πŸ’: What's the last book you read that felt like an emotional roller coaster?

✨️πŸ₯€ The Cannibal Book Event πŸ₯€βœ¨οΈ

I.V. Ophelia was an author I was hoping to meet when I was at BookCon earlier this spring but didn't get a chance to do so, so I was so glad when SoCal was one of her stops for her tour for the final book in The Poisoner series. This trilogy is the perfect read now that fall is here, and I'm excited for what else this author has in store next for us!

Massive shout-out and thank you to @frannys.little.nook for gifting me her ticket since she wasn't able to go πŸ₯Ή

π‘»π’Šπ’•π’π’†: The Love Hypothesis
𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓: Ali Hazelwood
π‘Ήπ’‚π’•π’Šπ’π’ˆ: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

π‘»π’‰π’π’–π’ˆπ’‰π’•π’”:

It's been a hot minute (i.e. over a year πŸ˜…) since I last posted a review on Insta. But with the new Love Hypothesis movie coming out today, I figured no better time than today to discuss the book!

Many of my friends know that contemporary romance and rom-coms are not my go-to reads (fantasy is where my heart is, if you haven't noticed πŸ˜‰). I appreciate these genres, but often find that they're not my cup of tea whenever I try to read them, so it was such a pleasant surprise when I found myself engrossed in this book from the get-go. Before starting my read, I was ready to feel fairly indifferent as I have with so many rom-coms I've picked up, but from the prologue and onward, I was invested in Olive and Adam's story, their chemistry, and Olive's character arc (also yay for demisexual FMC's ✊️)

Ali has a way of writing perfectly comedic moments without going over the top or stepping too far into cringey, second-hand embarrassment. And I think Ali has done the impossible where, for once, I didn't hate the third-act breakup, and empathized with the character's decision to enact it because I feel like there was enough build-up to that moment, and I could understand the character's mentality for why they did what they did.

All in all, a fun read, and I am super hyped to watch the movie with my friends this weekend πŸ’•

QOTD πŸ’: What's a book that took you by surprise, either because you liked it or disliked it more than you expected?

βœ¨οΈπŸ—‘ Fonda Lee Signing Event πŸ—‘βœ¨οΈ

I'm so glad I was able to attend Fonda Lee's signing event when she was in town for LAcon/Worldcon earlier last month. I was bummed to have missed out on her signing line last year at Yallwest, but honestly, I think it worked out for the best since these special editions of The Green Bone saga hadn't been out at the time. I'm thrilled to now have the entire trilogy signed by her along with this copy of The Last Contract of Isako that I'm looking forward to getting to.

QOTD πŸ’: What was the last standalone you read, and what did you rate it?

β˜€οΈπŸ¦‡ Nest of Tongues Book Event πŸ¦‡β˜€οΈ

The manananggal have always been one of my favorite mythological creatures in Philippine lore and probably just any lore, so it goes without saying how ecstatic I am that Randy Ribay released a book centering around these creatures. To have a traditionally published book about a Philippine mythological creature while following a Filipino family as the main characters just means so much to me.

Nest of Tongues is also one of my book club's picks for spooky season in October, so I will definitely be sinking my teeth into this book very soon 😁

First off, I want to thank In Bloom Bookery for inviting me to this incredible dinner earlier this month. You all really blew us all away with how incredible everything was, from the food to the décor to everything else 😍 And of course getting to celebrate Joss Richard's newest nook with her was absolutely so wonderful and special πŸ₯Ή Definitely a top highlight of my summer!

✨️ Ruinous Ends Book Event β³οΈπŸ—‘

About a year ago, I got to attend I.V. Marie's book event in LA for her debut novel, Immortal Consequences. This year, I got to attend the book event for the conclusion of that series πŸ₯Ή How time flies.

Don't mind me being too busy suggesting to Isa that she should watch the anime Angel Beats (iykyk) to remember that I didn't get a photo with her before I left πŸ’€πŸ˜… Shout out to the booksellers at B&N who take 100 candid shots anyways
