POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The Barrier Scroll is a high fantasy webcomic that blends epic adventure, vast world building, and an aching slow-burn romance. Oriole, a woman born with rare magic she can’t control, and Ryn, a soldier stripped of title and scarred by loss, are thrown together in a world on the edge of war.

Begin with the Prologue. Full episodes available now on the official site.

I goofed, I hit publish on webtoon instead of schedule. 😅 So, Episode 43 is out early my friends!

Can you do me a favor (and only if you want to) and leave a comment on whatever platform you read? Be it the official site or webtoon canvas? As creators we love hearing from you, I’d adore knowing how this romantic mini arc landed. Sometimes we get very little dialog and it can be difficult to gauge how readers might feel about things! So every little piece of love is so very helpful!

Hope you enjoy. ❤️ taken in San Francisco, California by @thebarrierscroll

Creating the webcomic of my dreams, I hope this passion project makes someone feel seen and feel understood. We’ve come a long way but we still have so much work to do.

Now more than ever we need creativity and storytelling to show our truths. Being Filipino American has been a unique experience and I hope that comes through in my work.

Join me as I bring this story to life for you. And for those who’ve been here, thank you. I appreciate you giving Oriole the voice she so greatly deserves.

Episode 42 - Not Nearly Enough of The Barrier Scroll. I haven’t normalized the typeface so don’t come for me. This is the second part of a 3 part romantic arc for our blossoming heroes.

You can go behind the scenes with me as a Patron where I give a whole breakdown of episode 41 and 42, including easter eggs and symbolism. 💙

If you’re not caught up yet, I encourage you to read on the official site (where I pair each episode with gorgeous music) or you can conveniently indulge on webtoon canvas as well.

If you’ve already read it, let me know your thoughts? I’d love to know how this mini arc is landing for you. Especially that last panel…😌

Surprise! I love to design (and make webcomics!) and it’s really one of the best skill sets to have when making a webcomic!

I’ve been lucky enough to work for all my dream companies, some took multiples times to apply to but I’m stubborn and maybe a little bit tenacious as well.

Sometimes people ask how I was able to level up quicker when I started webcomics but I think I had a good baseline. Webcomics require all kinds of skills!

Slide 3 is a good example of some of my work out in the wild. Something to note, much of the art in the mocks on that slide were provided by the companies’ talented art teams and it’s not representative of my own illustrative work (which is seen in my webcomic instead) but as a designer we often work with assets from multiple teams!

This is what I do when I’m not working on my webcomic! This is also what makes The Barrier Scroll possible. I’d love to know more about you? What do you do? What do you study? What are your hobbies?❤️

Broken Swords Still Cut.

This is me playing with layout for the print version of volume 1. I haven’t normalized the scale of the text in these panels yet, so don’t come for me. 😌🫶

Episode 41 - Broken Sword, go read it in vertical scroll on the official website, it has gorgeous music that’s paired with it.

The next episode comes out in just a few weeks but if you’re a Patron, you can read it right now. ❤️

Until the stars reclaim us. 🔥

Sketches for Barrier Scroll patrons back in Aug. available there in high quality! Usually I take requests for sketch bundles but sometimes I just draw what calls to me (sometimes it’s canon, sometimes it’s not, and I’ll never tell you which is right!)

Like any of these? Is your fav the same as mine?🤔

All my love.

Which panel speaks to you the most? ❤️‍🩹

I explore these feelings and themes in my webtoon The Barrier Scroll, you can read it on the official site or webtoon canvas.

It’s a love letter to old-school fantasy, written like a novel and illustrated like and animated series.

Progress! 📈 Just a reminder to stop waiting until you’re ’good enough’ (whatever that means!) to start your project. Also, there’s some really REALLY old concept art towards the end of this carousel. 🙈

Let me know in the comments if you want me to dig for more! 😅

The Barrier Scroll is an award winning epic-fantasy narrative that’s written like a novel and illustrated like a cinematic animated series. But most importantly, it’s the story of my heart and soul, and I’m so thankful I get to share it with you. I hope you can see and feel the love I pour into it when you read new episodes.

It’s my love letter to old-school romantasy stories for the bookish lovers who crave depth, high stakes, and and relationships and characters that feel real and earned. I plan to make it into a graphic novel next year as well! 📚
