Stories about bootstrappers by @shackhq

Hola Bootstrappers. I am Abhishek. I run Shack Coffee Co. It's a five year old cafe. It's for bootstrappers. I started it with one table and one chair. Today it is a hub for the community of bootstrappers. I built it by using the fundamentals of marketing, public relations and customer care.

Everyday fellow bootstrappers ask me about the secrets of building their communities. Building your community is not magic.

It's a step by step process. It's about knowing your customers, identifying the most relevant ones, defining objectives and reaching out to them to grow the business and build the community.

Every week I will send a newsletter keeping in mind the the bootstrappers, who come to Shack. Expect to use the insights and ideas to build your community.

Please join the newsletter.

Bootstrappers can beat the big businesses.

Strong local and bootstrapped businesses are a nightmare for big businesses. Starbucks closed 70% of its stores in Australia, where most coffee shops are bootstrapped. McDonald’s in Iceland had to quit the country as it could not compete with the local burger chain. https://bit.ly/BeatBigBiz by @thebootstrappers

“Starting something in the hopes of making an extra $1,000 a month is every bit as worthy as trying to colonise Mars. Start small and give your ambitions room to grow.

You may be surprised with how little ambition it really takes to eventually change the world.”

Bricolage is an act of using whatever is at hand, and recombining them to make something new. The boutique owner has brought the dining table for home. It is not a workstation. The jewellery designer uses the furniture from the last business to design jewelleries. She uses a make-shift studio, with wooden sticks and metal hooks, to shoot videos. I am also practicing bricolage at Shack Coffee.

#bootstrappers of Shahpurjat: Birpal vends seasonal fruits. Before ‘जामुन/ jamun’ he sold ‘फ़ालसा/phalsa’. He has been coming to the lanes of Shahpurjat for more than ten years.
He has added his secret masala to the Jamun. It’s in the fridge, to be eaten cold. by @thebootstrappers
