The 2025 Safe Space season is coming to a close & we can’t thank you enough for being a part of the community 🪩🌷🤲🏼

So many incredible women came through, showing up for themselves and for one another in ways that we never imagined. The memories from this first year will be tangled tightly in our heartstrings forever.

Enjoy this little recap from the start of our journey to where we are now and try to spot yourself 🤭

It’s important to us to extend an extra special thank you to @becomingnif , @lululemon , @meetyourmatchayeg , @hearthcowork , and @_jacdfitness for your support in helping us to curate some ultra sweet experiences for our girls this year and for your trust in the value that this collective holds. We are so grateful for you.

Tonight will be our final organized group run of 2025 so that we can recharge & come back to the joy of this team again in the new year 💐🐎

Thank you @firstlookoutreach for having me speak at their first event this past weekend 🙏🏼 This was an incredible opportunity to share my story and some photography/media tips and tricks! I hope that the athletes were able to learn a few things about branding and the other opportunities when working in sports.

It was also a pleasure to meet all of the other panelists and have the opportunity to hear their words of wisdom 💛

Thank you @runforthecure_edmonton 2025 🩷
On Sunday the @safespace.rc team came out to support Edmonton’s CIBC Run for the Cure! Our ladies participated in a 1km-5km run/walk to help advocate for more breast cancer research and awareness💪🏽

Together, we raised $546, surpassing our initial goal and showcasing what happens when women show up for each other and their community!

Huge thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and our amazing Safe Space women for bringing so much heart, energy, and support to such an inspiring event. 💖
Here’s to running for hope, health, and each other🫶🏼

Welcome Candace Wonago to the Panel

Candace Wonago is a professional photographer, videographer, and creative director based in Edmonton, Alberta. A former track and field athlete, Candace found her way back to her sports roots through the lens. She began her photography career by capturing athletes and sporting events. What started as a creative outlet soon evolved into a full-fledged career, allowing her to merge her passion for storytelling, sport, and community.

With a deep understanding of what it means to be both an athlete and a woman working in a male-dominated industry, Candace uses her platform to create space for women in sports media. Her work has allowed her to collaborate with organizations, brands, and initiatives that share her vision of inclusion and empowerment. Through partnerships with groups like the Boys and Girls Club, she helps teach young girls sports photography and media, inspiring confidence and showing them that they belong both on and off the field.

In addition to her photography and videography work, Candace is the founder of The Bra Code. A growing initiative built to empower women in all areas of sport. The Bra Code focuses on community involvement, media visibility, and building support networks for women who are too often overlooked in the sports industry. Through her creative work, mentorship, and advocacy, she continues to champion equal representation, amplify women’s voices, and build spaces where women in sport can connect, be seen, and thrive together. taken in M.E. 📸✨ Capturing Confidence Through the Lens ✨📸

Our girls-only photography program, hosted by Bra Code (@thebracodesc) with the talented Candace (@candace_w), gave participants the chance to explore the fundamentals of photography — from respect and angles, to settings and positioning. The girls bonded over fun, hands-on lessons while discovering new passions behind the camera. 💙

The highlight? A live action photoshoot featuring Edmonton Elks players Nicholas Anderson (@neezy.a) and Steven Dunbar (@thatsherkuless_), who generously volunteered their time to talk about their profession, play catch with the youth, and model for our budding photographers. 🏈📸

A huge thank-you to everyone who made this program possible and provided these young women with an unforgettable experience. 🌟
