Meet the Bookstagrammer

It’s been a while since I did one of these, so here we are. (also, I just felt like it and this is my account so I do what I want 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Who I am
🌱I’m a life-long New Englander and, honestly, I can’t imagine living anywhere else (except for the fact that US politics/ government is a total sh*t show dumpster fire)

🌱I aggressively love my family. I have two siblings and a mom I love, my nieces and nephews are the coolest people I know, and my husband and kids are my everything.

🌱I am a fiercely loyal friend. I will basically drop everything for a friend in need.

🌱I have a degree in theater (stage management) and only stopped having theater as a job/ regular part of my life when my youngest was born 4 yrs ago (bc work/ life balance). I still work in non-profits and don’t see that changing.

🌱I was raised on Reading Rainbow, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Sesame Street. And, like...I feel like that says a lot about me 😂

What I love
🤍Coffee
🤍Plants
🤍Cozy blankets
🤍Hoodies
🤍Star Trek
🤍Camping
🤍Dinosaurs
🤍Pets
🤍True Crime
🤍Tattoos

What I love in my books
📚Fantasy & Sci Fi
📚Epic worldbuilding
📚Mythical creatures
📚Animal companions
📚Lovably awkward MCs
📚Fierce lady-identifying characters
📚Found family
📚Mysteries that need solving
📚Cozy vibes
📚Diversity! Gimme all of the non-cis/white/straight/able bodied rep

Thanks for being here, booksta friends. I love this space and talking books (and everything else!) with y’all 🤍

I’m not usually a “own multiple copies of the same book” kinda gal. My house is small, so space is limited (and my kids have already taken up any free space I’ve got 😂). And, honestly, I just don’t feel the need.

When Shades of Magic was rereleased with new cover art, I was tempted to rebuy it so it would match Fragile Threads on my shelf (and obviously keep my original copies because those black, red, and white covers are my FAV). I never did.

Then Queen @veschwab signed a bunch of her books for my beloved @sidequestbooks - and it felt like it was meant to be. The way I RAN for these 😍

So, I am now in the “multiple copies of the same books” club. Of course it was Shades (aka my favorite series of all time) that pushed me over the edge 😂

(I mean…I also now have two copies of Bury our Bones…soooo)

✨Minimalist Monday✨

Y’all. I’m EXHAUSTED. I had a duper busy (but good!) weekend, didn’t read a single page, and am only upright today because of my excessive caffeine intake.

So enjoy a simple photo of one of my new favorite book dedications (from Portrait of a Witch Undone) with one of my new favorite mugs (containing coffee with a splash of homemade pumpkin syrup gifted from a friend)

Happy Monday, babes ✌🏼 by @thecaffeinatedmoodreader

💀🍂IT’S OCTOBER 🍂💀

Y’all. October might be my favorite month. I love chilly mornings, the colors of changing leaves, warm coffee, cozy blankets, and THE VIBES. Gimme all the spookies and cozies, y’all. 😍

And I’m literally starting this month the only way I know how- with Dead Beat. I started it last night and I just love this series so much 😭

My October TBR is full of dark, witchy, secret society books and ya girl is READY by @thecaffeinatedmoodreader

It’s Monday.
It’s day 3 of nor’easter rain.
My house is filled with overflowing baskets of clean laundry I didn’t have time to fold this weekend.
And I have to work 😣

So I’m attempting to give myself a little dopamine hit by posting my witchy TBR stack.

Most of these are books I haven’t heard much about, but they look delicious and I love stories that feature witchy vibes of all kinds…so let’s go

🪾Conjure Women by Afia Atakora
This has been on my TBR for ages!

🪾We Call Them Witches by India-Rose Bower
This book claims to have pagan, scary things in the woods vibes. Sign me up.

🪾Island Witch by Amanda Jayatissa
Creepy/ borderline horror, female rage, set in Sri Lanka, demon priests. Say less.

🪾The Witches of Cambridge by Alice Hoffman
I’m excited about this one- Secret Society of witches in Boston? Perfection

🪾The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas
I just finished the one and really enjoyed it- haunted house, hot priest, spooky happenings.

🪾Portrait of a Witch Undone by K. S. Shay
My current read- literally, if you want me to read your book, just set it in New England with witches. Add Isabella Stuart Gardener museum heist for bonus points 😍

🪾The Witches who Trades with Death by C. M. Alongi
Picked this baby up completely blind but obsessed with the title and cover art 😅 by @thecaffeinatedmoodreader

🍂September Stack🍂

I finally have enough books with titles starting with the letter “e” to spell September 😂 So obviously I had to do one before the month ends (well, that and because @i.dont.give.a.fantasy.funk tagged me and I keep unintentionally ignoring everyone’s tags 🫣)

While I love the start of fall and the crisp mornings September usually brings, I have to say I like this month less each year. Like- why does the start of school always have to be so chaotic?! My kids have been in school almost a full month and I still don’t feel like we’ve found our routine. And I’m over it 🫠

Anyway- I hope you’re getting a good start to cozy season. Or, if you’re one who hangs on to summer, I hope you’re still getting enough sunshine 🫶🏻🫶🏻 by @thecaffeinatedmoodreader

Tananarive Due has been on my radar a while and The Reformatory has been on my TBR for ages…but I still haven’t read anything by her yet 🫣 So when Mazywood was an @aardvarkbookclub pick for September, I jumped at the chance to grab it!

This book sounds so perfectly nostalgic and haunting- I cannot WAIT to read it!

My preorder of Dead Beat came at the end of last week. The temptation to abandon current read for this is REAL…but I’m really liking my current read…so hopefully I’ll be able to control myself and simply pick this baby up next.

Fun fact- I DNF’d Ninth House the first time I read it. Then I tried again a few months later and am SO glad I did as this is now one of my fav series of all time.

Do you ever return to a DNF to give it a second shot? by @thecaffeinatedmoodreader

🪾Mini Review🪾
A Forest, Darkly
by A. G. Slatter

What I loved:
🪾Middle aged, totally over it, witch FMC
🪾Spooky mysteries in the woods
🪾Dark fairy tale vibes
🪾Said older FMC having a steamy moment or two 😏
🪾Mentor/ mentee relationship
🪾That last 3rd delivers

What I didn’t love:
🪾Felt slow at times
🪾I wanted a little more plot depth

If you’re looking for a witchy dark fairy tale to add to your fall TBR- this one is worth checking out.

Do you have a favorite fairy tale? I’ve always been partial to Little Red Riding Hood…probably in part because she’s one of my favorite characters in Sondheim’s Into the Woods (my all time favorite musical) 😂 by @thecaffeinatedmoodreader

🍂Fall Hopefuls🍂

Is it 85 degrees today? Yup.
Am I still manifesting fall with atmospheric books and fall candles? You bet.

I present a small selection of books on my TBR that feel right to read in the -ber months. There are a few on my list that I don’t physically have in hand AND I’m a chaotic, unpredictable mood reader…sooo this stack is simply a suggestion 🤣

What’s your preferred fall reading vibe? Horror, fantasy, cozy?

Or do you just read whatever you want whenever you want? by @thecaffeinatedmoodreader

⚔️Fantasy Friday⚔️

Y’all. I ADORED The Knight and the Moth. I also ADORED The Shepard King duology. So I think it’s safe to say I’m expected to fully enjoy The Knave and the Moon.

I honestly think Rachel Gillig is becoming an auto buy author for me- her books are dark, lush, atmospheric, and I freaking EAT THEM UP

📚Last, Now, Next📚

I don’t usually do these because asking what I’ll read next is like looking into the cloudiest of crystal balls; but I’m on a roll and feeling very sure of my next read.

Last: The Bane Witch by Ava Morgyn
This book was fine- more thriller/ suspense than fantasy and not quite what I expected…but I’ll always eat up a story about angry women poisoning bad men

Current: Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey
I’m halfway through and LOVING this book! So glad I finally picked it up.

Fool’s Fate by Robin Hobb
I’ve been staring at my Hobb shelf daily and I’m honestly jonesing. So I’m going back in to finish Tawney Man and, as usual, I’m equally excited and anxious 😂 by @thecaffeinatedmoodreader
