Antoni Tudisco’s approach to digital art feels limitless and free. Through a kind of digital alchemy, he transforms imagination into fashion, sculpture, and light. His worlds capture the weightless wonder of childhood, where instinct and design go off to recess, and every reflection reminds us how strange and beautiful the world can truly be. by @thecanopyat900

"Excavation of Movement” is a collaboration between the Art Institute of Chicago (@artinstitutechi), The Joffrey Ballet (@joffreyballet), and The Canopy at 900 North Michigan. (@900shops). The piece explores movement in Willem de Kooning’s artwork, with Joffrey dancers Coco Alvarez-Mena and Zachary Manske performing in front of “Excavation” (1950). It runs in parallel with “Willem de Kooning Drawing,” on view through September 20, and is now playing on The Canopy, curated by Zac Hall.

From director and Canopy resident artist Adrian Stein: “Abstract Expressionism is an embodied record of action, a history of raw decision-making and of the limits of the artist’s reach. If Abstract Expressionism is a record of movement, what happens when we turn it around and let the record become direction for movement?”

It takes more than technique to make animation come alive. There has to be emotion behind every frame.

For Danaé Gosset, the starting point is always feeling. Before a single brush touches paper, she listens to the music until she knows it instinctually. For “Rush Hour” by Mac Miller, that meant translating the tension between the chaos of everyday life and the quiet refuge of our inner worlds.

The result is a watercolor dreamscape composed of more than 2,200 hand-painted frames, created by an international team of twelve artists working together to make every image feel like it belonged to the same dream.

Sometimes the most ambitious works begin with something deeply personal: listening closely enough to understand how a song feels.

Does a flower have a spirit? If it does, can you capture it?

In search of these questions, we arranged flowers, then scanned them into the digital realm. The flowers themselves have since withered and returned to the Earth, but we’d like to think that we captured their essence, and that through The Canopy, a little piece of their spirit lives on.

"Even after this beauty withers away, the ghost of this flower will carry on with a life of its own." 🌸

Zac had been working in floral design, and Adrian had been doing digital art for many years before they even began their collaboration known as Haze Labs. Yet it wasn’t until now that they put these skill sets together.

Building floral arrangements, scanning them into 3D, and using those models to compose new arrangements all grew out of one question: What is the essence of an arrangement, and can that spirit be captured digitally?

Of course, what the scanner captured wasn’t the flowers themselves. It created glitches and imperfections that held a beauty of their own. It created something like a digital ghost of the original arrangements.

What started as making visuals for their music turned into projects for NASA, album art for pop stars, and massive 3D billboards across the globe. 🚀

For this Artist Spotlight, NYC art duo @blunt_action brings “Windows of Insight” to The Canopy, blending ancient wisdom with futuristic digital art to give us a visual cue to look up and reflect.

“If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.” —Friedrich Nietzsche 👁️

These days, looking at our cell phones often feels like staring into the abyss. But overhead on The Canopy, @blunt_action flips the gaze with “Windows of Insight” featuring giant portraits of Plato, Confucius, W.E.B. Du Bois, and other thinkers whose ideas built how we see the world.

So put the phone down, step outside, and come stand under the “windows.”

“Windows of Insight” provides a moment to contemplate the thoughts and ideas passed down to us from the greatest thinkers of our past.

Art duo @blunt_action made a name for themselves doing forced-perspective digital art for giant billboards, and they wanted to bring that ethos to a more contemplative piece for The Canopy.

Now, as technology accelerates all around us, Blunt Action has given us this visual cue to look up, contemplate our own place in the world, and, perchance, the legacy our generation will leave behind.
