It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our sister and colleague Dria Yellowhair. Dria was a unique and vibrant light in our community. She was a proud and loving Diné auntie, sister, daughter, granddaughter, and friend. She was Tł’ógí, born for Táchii’nii, her maternal grandfather’s clan was Tódich’ii’nii, and her paternal grandfather’s clan was Tł’ízí Łání.

Dria dedicated herself wholly to serving the Indigenous community, especially Native youth, throughout greater Los Angeles. Dria was a true Chapter House day one (our third team member!) and was truly essential in making our org what it is today. The Chapter House would not be TCH without Dria. Over the years she worked not only at TCH as our Outreach Coordinator, but many other Native orgs including Sacred Path Indigenous Wellness Center, So’oh-Shinálí Sister Project, and Indigenous Circle of Wellness, and volunteered at countless community events. A Native event was not really an event if Dria Yellowhair wasn’t there with her fab fits, Cali girl accent, and red lipstick. Dria earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from California State University, Los Angeles (2025), where she was active in the American Indian Student Association and earned a Certificate in Youth Agency Administration. She also served on the City of Los Angeles’ Commission on Community and Family Services.

Above all Dria was a fierce and loving auntie and beloved sister to so many. She had an immeasurable presence as someone who showed up, made people laugh—both in and outside of her Indigeprov group and stand up class—and always made everyone feel appreciated, welcomed, and embraced. Dria has left us much too soon and will be missed beyond measure by all of us. We love you so much Dria.

At this time please consider supporting Dria’s family through GoFundMe here: gofund.me/b8447ee10 and keeping Dria and them in your thoughts and prayers.

A celebration of life for Dria Yellowhair will be held at a later date and announced soon. by @thechapterhousela

My all Native comedy show in Los Angeles is almost sold out!

My name is Joey Clift (Cowlitz) and I’m putting on a comedy show on October 6th at 7:30pm at @elysiantheater featuring some of the funniest names in Native American comedy and we’re so close to selling out!

We’ve got a packed lineup, with folks like @brian_bahe (Ghosts), @itskristinchirico (The Kitchen & Jorn Show), @jimruel2 (The American Indian Comedy Slam), @itsbrittaniebitch (Better Call Saul), @grinningindian (Just For Laughs), zine artist @jooliefiveash and @thedoophus ‘s Indigeprov.

The show is on October 6th to celebrate the launch of my new book, “We’ve Been Here The Whole Time! A Not So Sacred Guide to All Things Native America.” It’s a comedy book releasing through Andrews McMeel and @simonandschuster about all of the Native history, culture and notable people they never taught you in school! Sort of like if The Onion or The Daily Show wrote a book about Indian Country.

Tickets are $16, or $40 for a ticket + a copy of my book.

Half of all ticket profits will be donated to @thechapterhousela , an awesome Native women led nonprofit putting on cool events for the Los Angeles Indigenous community. Buy tickets using the QR code in the video or at the link in my bio.
The show is almost sold out (only like 20 tickets left), so get yours before we’re completely sold out!

And if you don’t live in Los Angeles, this is the first stop in my nationwide book tour, so come see me at a city near you. A link tree with more info about my tour can be found in my bio.

Come to The Elysian in Los Angeles on 10/6 to see some great Native comedy, celebrate the release of my new book and support a cool nonprofit in the process.

And if you’ve already pre ordered my book, go to the link in my bio and use our pre order incentive form to get a free comedy zine!

Content warning: This carousel discusses forced assimilation, abuse, and the deaths of Indigenous children in boarding and residential schools. Resources for learning and support are included on the final slide.

Today, on #OrangeShirtDay, we honor the Survivors of Indian boarding and residential schools, their families and descendants, and the children who never made it home. 🧡

At #TheChapterHouse, we also want to remember what could not be erased. Our people are still here and our stories are still being told. Our languages are being shared and our artists are still creating. Our communities are still gathering, laughing, loving, teaching, and carrying our cultures forward.

Today we hold space for grief, remembrance, truth, and healing for every generation that survived so another could be here. #EveryChildMatters. 🧡 taken in The Chapter House by @thechapterhousela

Happy #CaliforniaNativeAmericanDay!!! 🩵

Today, we celebrate the people, cultures, joy, resilience, and communities that make Indian Country what it is.

Observed every fourth Friday of September, California Native American Day honors the histories, contributions, sovereignty, and survival of Indigenous Peoples across the state. California is home to 109 federally recognized Tribal Nations, alongside dozens of non-federally recognized tribes and countless Indigenous communities. Those numbers only begin to tell the story of who is here.

We remember those who survived centuries of colonization, from the mission system and Gold Rush-era violence to boarding schools, relocation, termination, and ongoing fights for sovereignty and recognition. We are still here, carrying the traditions of those who refused to disappear.

That history is part of why The Chapter House exists. We serve ALL Native people in Los Angeles — California Indian, urban, relocated, visiting, and Indigenous Peoples from across #TurtleIsland to #AbyaYala. Native people deserve spaces to gather, create, celebrate, learn, rest, connect, and simply be.

Today, we honor those who came before us and everyone still creating, teaching, organizing, loving, laughing, and building a future for generations to come.

Long live Native joy. 🩵 taken in The Chapter House by @thechapterhousela
