When this was filmed, I was 4 weeks out of surgery for ovarian cancer (my sister, both survivors, in the hat was 11 months out of treatment for BC) I was 2 weeks away from chemo. And was terrified. I had no idea what was coming. So I did the only thing I knew how to do: Fucking LIVE. I said yes, Yes to life. Yes to joy. Yes to a bike ride. Yes to flights. Yes to the gig. Yes to any moment right in front of me. That’s what healing looked like. It was messy. Maybe delusional. It was fear and freedom in the same breath. It was squeezing in memories before this dance with the devil. It was choosing light, even with the shadow right behind me. And if you’re reading this and you’ve just been diagnosed, Dear Girl, I want you to know You’re not broken. You’re just beginning. And I promise you, there is so much beauty on the other side of pain. A rebirth is coming. And she is glorious. Life doesn’t have to end after a diagnosis. 💚Hot tip: There is also beauty right here. I’m Blythe, @thechemoqueens founder and cancer survivor. We were so excited to launch The Bell Collection™ this week that I had forgotten what day it was! The day I got to raise that bell so high over my head and ring it until I felt like my arm was going to fall off. It’s been 3 years and while healing is different for everybody, the journey is so relatable. Between the two of us, my sister Kesley and @chemoqueens founder, we’ve experienced chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, survivorship, caregiving, and everything that comes with it and after it! You CAN save your hair during chemotherapy and here are our Top 3 Tips for doing it ➡️⬇️ For starters, cold capping takes time, patience, and planning. Your current hair care routine is a thing of the past, there are new guidelines to consider before and well after treatment. You can find those on our Cold Cap 101 blog but here is what matters the most: 💚1. Manage Expectations. Success looks different for everyone. Some thinning is normal even with high success rates. Focus on keeping enough coverage to feel like yourself and care for the hair that stays. Gentle detangling and a lot of hydration are key. Inside and out. 💚2. Personalize Your Routine. Daily or twice daily detangling will help you stay ahead of matting. Use hydrating leave ins (@dailydose), sulfate free shampoo (@pura_dor) and gentle washing in preparation for infusion days. Daily moisture on your hair is essential, don’t be afraid to come through with proper hydration steps. Skip heat styling or coloring and protect your hair at night with silk or satin wraps or bonnets. 💚Slide 3: Prepare and Build Support. Cold capping can last eleven to twelve hours per treatment day with frequent cap changes. Have a reliable helper for dry ice prep, cap swaps, and emotional support. If clinical settings feel overwhelming, ask for private space. Connect with online groups, especially for your hair type, for real world tips and encouragement. But at the end of the day, YOU know your hair best and do not be afraid to ask for what you need, you are not a burden. This is your journey, your power. Blythe saved her hair because she followed her own intuition, the guidelines provided to her were outdated and NOT catered to curls at all.
