Sometimes when I read a book, I feel like I'm the main character and everything that they're going through is happening to me🫣

Into the Wild is such a visually beautiful and psychologically rich film. Most people have thought about running away, but Christopher actually does it. We follow him on a journey where he meets new people, forms connections, and eventually leaves them all behind.
The film is about an idealist who fills his days with words on paper and searches for his own path to happiness. And honestly, I think it takes a lot of courage to step outside the mundane and follow the path that calls to you.
I read the book years ago and don’t remember much of it now, but the film is definitely a treat.

The Awakening is such a beautifully devastating book. It’s subtle and atmospheric.

While reading it, I kept connecting the story to Anna Karenina I read a few years ago.

Back then, I saw Anna Karenina as a story of action and consequences- following your passion leading to repercussions in a society cruel to women.

The lens with which I interpret stories now hadn’t developed at that time.

But in retrospect, I feel differently about the book.

I loved Anna Karenina, no doubt about it, but it felt like a cautionary tale.

Tolstoy wrote with a strong moral framework shaped by his religious beliefs, so maybe Anna Karenina turned out this way.

If we interpret it as a third-person narrative that mirrors society, it makes sense too.

But The Awakening feels like it’s written from inside the mind of a woman going through a dilemma.

And that’s why it felt nuanced and refreshing.

All in all, I highly recommend The Awakening if you want a different take on Anna Karenina.

Reading Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang introduced me to the concept of linguistic relativity- the idea that language doesn’t just communicate thoughts, it can shape them.

There’s a strong version of this theory that claims language determines how we think, but that’s mostly been rejected. What still holds is the weaker version: language can influence how we perceive the world.

And it made me think about something personal. I think, speak, and consume most content in English. So has that changed the way I see things? Even how I relate to my own culture? I don’t have an answer but it’s one of those ideas that makes think.

It this interests you, you should read Story of Your Life. It explores time, memory, and free will in a way that offers a more paradoxical and complex interpretation than the film Arrival.

Reading The Trial felt surreal.

I kept wondering what was even happening but that’s Kafka for you!

What stayed with me wasn’t the confusion, it was how familiar it felt.

A world with no clear answers, no real escape. Very Camus-coded.

The 1962 adaptation captures that unsettling feeling almost perfectly.

Midnight in Paris is such a warm, feel-good film.
A writer in a rut fantasizes about living in a time when everything felt easier but ends up learning a thing or two.
It explores nostalgia, art, and the idea of a “better time.”
If you’re a reader, you’ll probably love this one. It almost feels like reading magical realism, just in cinema form.

It’s interesting how differently we interpret the same story.
If I had read this book when I was younger,
I would’ve probably seen it as a tragic story of unrequited love.
I used to be such a hopeless romantic.
But time and experience change the way you see things.
Reading this felt like going back in time, to a version of myself that was a little more naive,
a little more innocent and always daydreaming.
That’s the beauty of literature.
You lose yourself in it but somehow, you find yourself in it too.

Some things don’t last.
But that doesn’t make them any less real.

We’re taught to measure love by how long it stays.
But maybe that’s a wrong way to look at it.

Some connections are brief,
but they still change you in ways that stay.

And maybe that’s enough.

We’re taught to want more.

More success. More progress. More everything.

But no one talks about what it costs.

The constant urgency.

The pressure to always be somewhere else.

Maybe nothing is wrong with your life.

Maybe you’re just tired of chasing more. taken in Mumbai, Maharashtra by @thecinematicprose
