it’s love
.
.
.
I originally planned to see @missjillscott in Dallas (hence the girls trip). She is literally the only concert I’ve been looking forward to seeing all year and it felt like the best gift to give myself this trimester. She’s so warm and woman and divine and I know her catalog word for word. Even when her original dates were rescheduled (no Dallas show for me 🥺), I knew I’d find my way to see her live for the first time.

As fate would have it, the first round of rescheduled dates touched down in my hometown, where my mom had a spare ticket. So I got to see my favorite Jill with my fly mama, the one who introduced me to her in the first place. We locked away our phones and locked in to the live music and all three of us (👶🏾) got to bask in the joy, love and depth of Jilly. Àṣẹ. by @thecityproper

AVENEU IS OPEN

.
.
.
Over a jubilant Juneteenth weekend we opened the doors to @theaveneu1017 at 1017 Mt. Vernon Avenue on the Near East Side, one of Columbus, Ohio’s last historically Black neighborhoods.

We’ve been hard at work transforming my late father-in-law’s pharmacy into a place where my husband can further his commitment to expanding food access.

Now we’ve finally got a grocery store in our very own neighborhood. 🙌🏾 Come on in, we’re ready to welcome you. We’ve got just enough of all you need. 😉 by @thecityproper

i’ve been decidedly anti conference for a while now, but since I’ve just started writing my novel, i absolutely couldn’t miss @awpwriter.

✈️ i visited Baltimore for the first time
🦀 had the lumpiest crab cake (in a good way)
🙌🏾 heard from authors i admire
(@deeshaphilyaw! @roxanegay74!)
🖼️ got to see some @asherald work IRL
🤓geeked out over words/processes/genre
💃🏾 dressed my ass off (per usual)
✍🏾 ran into writing buddies from near and far
📖 got so much useful insight on book writing

thank you AWP for such an exhilaratingly exhausting time, i’ll be back.
