Florida might be about to change how much you pay in property taxes.

This November, voters decide on a ballot measure that could raise the homestead exemption from $50,000 to $250,000 by 2028. For full time homeowners, that could mean a much smaller tax bill.

Here’s the part most people miss. It only applies to the home you actually live in, not a vacation home, not a rental. And there’s a real deadline buried in the details, move to Florida by December 31, 2026, and you avoid a five year wait on the full benefit.

Nothing is official yet. It needs 60% voter approval this November.

If Florida is anywhere in your plan, even six months and a day, this is worth understanding now instead of after the fact.
