Our Grade 7 and Grade 10 crews have just come back from Crew Base Camp, a three-day, two-night camping trip in Fishkill, NY. As an NYC Outward Bound School, we know that some of our most important learning happens outside the classroom!

On the trip, students hiked, cooked together, tackled low ropes courses and team-building challenges, navigated through the beautiful Hudson Valley, picked up outdoor skills including cooking and building a fire. Evenings were full of games and activities with their crew advisories. Along the way they practiced communication and collaboration, building on the bonds they’ve formed with their crew, their core unit at BCS.

Students and staff pushed past their comfort zones, did more than they thought they could, and came home with a stronger sense of community. Camping is a big part of how we support students’ social-emotional wellbeing, and it’s always a favorite memory. Many students ask to go again!

A huge thank you to our hard working crew leaders, the Outward Bound instructors, our openminded and courageous students, and the families who made this possible.
