Dear Lahore This is a story within a letter. Being a part of a musical repertoire in Beirut around 5 years ago, I got all the notes wrong. I got all the melodies almost wrong, I was a screw up basically. Christine, my voice professor then asked me… have you not been a part of a choir before? To which I replied, ‘we don’t have one back home’. She said how about Carlos’s class ‘orchestra’ - I responded again. We don’t have one back home. To which she frowned, looked at me and said ‘stop whining, go home and make one’. Go home and make one… became a mission, an order, a game plan. In 2020, I met one of the finest music directors @ayn.umar who introduced me to a core team who later brought forward the dream, The Colony Choir with their grand music. @farisonthekeys @joshwa__javaid @iam.ranamubasher @awaisplaysdrumss So this is a letter within a letter. Dear Christine, Thank you, we made one! Dear Umar, Thank you. We made one! Dear Lahore, Thank you. We made one! To everyone who was a part of this choir, to everyone at The Colony. To everyone who showed up. Thank you. We made one! On this Independence Day, we wear white. On this Independence Day, our countrymen are not happy. On this Independence Day, we feel less independent. Let’s keep reminding ourselves why the white in our flag exists. Our minorities, whether it’s regional or religious have had to face a brutal, bloody year in a world that does not endorse freedom, love and equality for all. First rule to solve a problem is to identity there is one. Our minorities have problems; they need us! Let’s be good countrymen and listen to them, with our hearts and minds open for each other. Today we wear white for the white in our flag. Today, we side with the oppressed, today we sing ‘Hum Dekhain Ge’. God bless our home. God bless Pakistan. -Colony Choir Music Director : @ayn.umar Sitar: Maha Said Singers: @hibajafri @aleezacfatima @salman.akhtr @taimurmalik22 @junaidjabbarjj1 @musa.dean @sovialdeviner #ColonyChoir #TheColonyLahore #IndependenceDay by @thecolonychoir
Celebrating 5 years of The Colony. Colony Choir started as a mission to establish a commerical choir for the city of Lahore and that mission’s success relied on the shoulder of our director Syed Umar Ali and his team. His core team of maestros; Faaris Saleem, Awais, Joshua Javaid and Rana Mubashir added another layer of grandeur to the sound of the Colony Choir. A city choir that in 3 years done multiple shows all over the region including some of the most beautiful historical sites in the Walled City of Lahore and became the first and only commercial choir of Pakistan. We thank our 40 person ensemble that made this dream a reality. We thank the city of Lahore for all the love they gave to Colony Choir. And most importantly our creatives and producers at The Colony and partnering companies for helping us achieve this vision. Colony Choir is currently producing an array of shows for you and we can’t wait to share that magic with you. #ColonyChoir #TheColony #TheColonyLahore by @thecolonychoir
