In the artists own words; “An afternoon Old Time session in The Cobblestone Pub in Smithfield is depicted here. The artist particularly focuses on the fiddle player in front of the mirror, whose body language speaks of being torn between parenting and staying in sync with the rest of the musicians.”

We’re delighted to announce that this week we will be launching our latest series of prints in collaboration with @kathy.tynan ✨

Kathy’s oil paintings of familiar cityscapes and domestic scenes illuminate moments of intimacy and curiosity. Rather than focussing her gaze on monumental landmarks, she instead attributes value to that which is otherwise overlooked. Her
semi-autobiographical subjects include her own surroundings but speak more broadly to moments of affection, experiences of care, community, and relationships.

The first print in the run will go live this Friday so keep your eyes peeled for more info! 🔥

An accumulation of return, 2026
Archival pigment (gilcée) print

———

First developed during my residency in Kyoto, this work began through walking. I spent hours each day moving through the city, gradually becoming attentive to its architectural rhythms — shifts in scale and proportion, rooflines, thresholds, façades, material surfaces and the relationships between one structure and the next.

Many of the forms that began to recur were influenced by Kyoto’s traditional machiya houses, particularly their narrow proportions and the way they negotiate interior space, façade and street.

Each evening, I returned to the studio and made quick sketches from memory of the buildings and architectural fragments that had stayed with me. I was interested not in documenting them accurately, but in what remained once the physical building was no longer in front of me — what architecture might become after passing through movement, attention and memory.

Using graphite frottage from tatami mats, I brought a tactile record of these spaces into the drawings, connecting the visual experience of the city with the surfaces encountered beneath my feet.

When the sketchbook was full, I took it apart, separating the pages and arranging them across my studio floor. Gradually, they began to assume the form of a window I passed almost daily on my walk home — an ordinary but familiar landmark around which I had repeatedly oriented myself. Without consciously intending it, its architecture had entered the work through repetition.

I taped the pages together into a fragile, unresolved memory structure for my Kyoto exhibition, leaving its folds, joins and accumulated marks visible. Now in Ireland, the work has entered another phase: carefully scanned and reconstituted as a single print, carrying these traces forward into a new form.

✨ New Print Drop Tonight 7pm ✨

First developed in Japan, you may remember an earlier iteration of this work on paper that I made while I was an artist in residence in Kyoto last year.

The work began with walking. I spent hours each day moving through Kyoto, gradually becoming attentive to the architectural rhythms of the city — shifts in scale and proportion, rooflines, thresholds, façades, material surfaces, openings and the relationship between one structure and the next. Many of the building forms that began to recur were inspired by Kyoto’s traditional machiya houses, particularly their narrow proportions and the way they negotiate interior space, façade and street.

Each evening, I would return to the studio and make quick sketches from memory of buildings or architectural fragments that had stayed with me from that day. I wanted to see what remained once the physical building was no longer in front of me — what architecture looked like after it had passed through my movement, attention and memory.

The drawings were made largely through frottage, using graphite rubbed over paper laid against tatami mats. Tatami had become another recurring sensory experience during the residency. After spending entire days walking the city, I became increasingly conscious of the transition from pavement to these woven surfaces beneath my feet in domestic spaces and temples.

I was interested in the tatami mat as something architectural: a material whose dimensions, repetition and arrangement quietly organise space, how it influences how a body moves through it and how it can imprint upon you.

#memory #print #japan #architecture #tatami

Gradually, my little sketchbook filled up. I eventually took it apart completely, separating the pages and laying them out across the studio floor. As I began re-arranging them, I noticed that the object resembled something. The composition started to resemble a window I passed almost every day on my walk back to my accommodation.
